Anyone have braces on their teeth? I had braces for about 1.3 years and it didn't really bother me until I gotten rubber bands like 4-5 months ago. I don't even know how much longer I'll be having braces for. I'm guessing like another like 4-7 years because of closing this gap and waiting for my wisdom teeth to grow out. What's the worst thing you hate about braces? Discuss here :)

I used to have braces, hated them at first but eventually I got used to them. My teeth are a lot straighter now so it was worth it in the end.

Yeah, I know it's worth it. The rubber bands are extremely annoying though.

Personally I had my wisdom teeth extracted so i wouldnt have to use braces for too long. I've had them for 3 years, then they were removed about a year and a half ago. I still use retainers now even though I dont have to, just at night tho

Wearing retainer is important to keep your teeth straight.

my sister is 13 and she still needs them for 6 more years or so and she hates it. I would have needed them but i decided I would rather have my wisdom teeth pulled out instead of ruining my pretty good aligned set now haha. But yea she cant eat certain foods, and she literally started using the bands bout 3 weeks ago and she's already complaining about it. I feel sorry for ya man. At least you'll have a good looking set when it's all over with. more then most people can say.

My teeth are pretty crooked , but is it really worth all the $ and anguish to have braces for years?

I had braces on for a year and half. I didn't really mind the braces that much. The only thing that ever bothered me was the elastics you had to wear for any sort of overbite/underbite correction. Be sure to wear them though, you'll be so much more satisfied with the result when you're done.

Also when given a retainer be sure to wear it. My bottom teeth started moving back to the way they were solely because I didn't wear my retainer near as much as I should've. Today they look the same as they did when I started. Top ones are fine, but bottoms reset.

Oh well I guess. Bad choice.

Dang! You're scaring me. So if you don't wear retainers after braces, your teeth will go back to it's original place? How fast will the teeth shift if you don't wear them?

I have nearly perfect teeth. I do have an over-bite that isn't that noticeable, but annoys me when relaxing my teeth. Definitely not worth the procedure, time and money needed to fix it.

I had braces for only a year, but one of my brother's had his on for five. It was not bad, but now i have my retainer and sometimes i'm bad at wearing it. Just try to do what the orthodontist says. It will be worth it when you have perfect teeth. Yeah, rubber bands are awful. Some girl i was really good friends with had one almost dead center, she refused to wear it at school. Over all braces may suck, but you'll look 200% times better without them (at least i did).

I've been fortunate enough to have perfect teeth, but my 3 other siblings have all had to have braces.

Had braces, didn't wear that retainer at all.

Got a slight overbite but nothing drastic.

Been off for 4 years too.

I had braces for over 8 years, my teeth were terrible and I had pretty much everything that is made for fixing teeth except a head bracket.

I hated them so much after 3 years when the rest of my friends got them off. I was supposed to have them for another year, requested them off early and said screw the retainer.

Mine started moving back within the month of not wearing my retainer. It's just because your gums are still soft from the movement caused by the braces. You have to wear the retainer for the year or so to hold them in place while the gums regain strength.

Mine are almost 100% back to where they were when I started. I know it's a nuisance but I would suggest just leaving the retainer in as much as possible.

Thanks for the tip! I heard you should wear retainers for 2 years before you stop wearing them. I would wear it for 2 years, then I would just wear it at night after. I don't know how much longer I'll have braces for :l

Yeah that sounds about right, it's really an inconvenience but it's worth it in the long run! Your teeth will look fantastic when all is said and done!
