Personal Best Game

I know its Normal's But, after listening to your advice ive decided not to play ranked yet. This is the first time ive pulled off 2 penta's in 1 game. My personal best for kills.

Its so hard im so good counter jungling with yi and ive been going absolutely ham with him like last 6 games. Double digit kills and single digit deaths.

 

That's a very impressive score, even for normals! However, Master Yi is usually a very weak pick in Ranked. Playing him so much in normals is fun, but you'll find a much worse experience in ranked.

 

I've been playing Yi recently and while I agree he's really fun, he's pretty easy to get countered. If the enemy team were to build thornmail you're basically screwed and would have to splitpush.

Building a Thornmail is almost never advisable, even to counter a Master Yi. In the game shown, where hattez was so far ahead, I'd still not build a Thornmail. It gives more defense than is necessary, and it provides no health. Meanwhile, Master Yi's 80+ true damage per hit basically negates any Thornmail damage he'd receive.

Overall, a much better item to counter is Randuin's, which is such a good item that every bruiser/tank should almost always have one. It provides a ton of armor, but it also offers health to make that armor more worthwhile. Realistically, once you reach 150-200 armor, building more is a waste of gold; at that point, though, health is now worth about twice as much as armor. That's why Randuin's is so nice: it gets you near the armor cap, and gives a ton of HP as well. Plus, slowing Yi's ASP by 20% means you're literally reducing his damage output by 20%. Thornmail might hurt Master Yi, but it won't be for long. With his Q burst and true damage, I'd reckon he'd do less than half damage to you in the form of auto attacks, meaning he'd likely only take 200-400 damage before you blow up.

Strategically, though, countering Yi is easy. Ward and lane smart so that he can't pull off ganks, and know that Yi blows up almost as fast as he makes other people blow up. If you can, don't initiate a fight until you know Yi is contained (i.e., he's visible to you) and focus your initial CC burst on him. Within 2 seconds, your mid should have blown him up and it's now a 4v5 with 500 extra gold on your team.

 

yeah yi cant engage ever, ive learned that he's always first target. Ive gotten pretty good at timing my ganks right. I ripped some extremely crazy good games lately ive changed my whole strategy. I attack with yi stealing buffs so hard.

 

Ive played Yi in high diamond and its worked fine.

If you enjoy playing Yi go with it. I think people are too quick to judge Master Yi as he's known as a "pubstomp" champion.

 

Play ranked until the reset just to see how far you get. You're gonna get reset anyway.

 

is this for sure? id really like to try that when is it being reset?

Didn't work too well for me.

 

If I DO play master YI i usually run tp/smite or ghost/smite, start machete then go double doran's -> botrk.

 

What's the point of double doran's? The damage-per-gold is inefficient compared to long sword (especially after the nerf) and Yi doesn't need sustain during the assassination ganks.

Why not just go double longsword for BORK or for Spirit of Lizard?

ive been playing blitz lately and i love the pulls man.

(i played a ranked match n got fucked in selection i had to go fiddle sticks for my first time in my 2nd ranked match) (Destroyed)

 

Get used to playing a lane you're not used to.

 

I was boosting a buddy and won a 4v5 game as Yi. Had to go top as jungle yi. Somehow I got fed off Pantheon and got a pentakill. Ended the game 30/5 or something. Pretty funny 4v5.

 

Considering I run TP most of the times im mostly looking to countergank and/or farm for most of the early-mid game while only looking for ganks proactively when I have red buff.

Double doran's provides early game stats to turn around ganks effectively. You could try rushing directly into a cutlass->botrk but I just like the doran's safety net.
