Well, sure, but it still denotes a difference. They're not considered the same.

 

No you don't understand, the US Government considered the finalists in the last season as pro athletes. Not that they are partaking in a nationally recognized sport. League isn't technically a sport, and even if it was recognized in two countries, that's like me saying marijuana is legal because it is in some countries, it doesn't mean globally it is considered legal.

 

I would rather call it a discipline.

Also, I never stated the world acknowledged it as a sport, I specifically said USA, Russia and some other EU countries. No, it's not only relevant to the pros. Your logic is undeniably discrepant than any other I've encountered.

 

I'd say for us players who aren't in any kind of pro scene are just casual gamers, so then it wouldn't be classed as a sport, just a hobby.

But for the people who play it professionally, whether that be ameature tournaments or world finals etc. i'd say they're doing it as a sport.

 

I think that getting caught up in the definition is pretty silly, who cares whether it is labeled as a "sport" or not? The reason it is is so that professional gamers can travel and compete against other gamers on a visa, its easier to just categorize it as a sport because it shares many similarities than something completely different.

I mean lets be honest, it doesn't require a whole lot of physical exertion. It isn't like track or soccer, its in its own class.

Arguing over whether "moving your hand" is physical exertion or "if its a real sport" is a bit nonsensical since at the end of the day its just something that they write on their visa.

 

This exactly, honestly. The process basically allows better players to be able to move to the U.S. without going through a whole lot of red tape. Personally, I don't want to see League (or any eSport) in the Olympics at any point because the Olympics are an ages-old tradition celebrating physical dominance of some kind of physical activity/"real sport."

 

When i think of a sport i think of a competitive game, I would easily consider LoL a sport.

I don't think it really matters if it's considered a real sport or not. I don't consider any video game professional players to be athletes.
