    Worth?

My laptop is breaking down, so I need a new machine. I'm tired of laptops, they're literally not worth the portability, so here's a PC build I want to get. It's cheaper, but I think it has decent specs what with the 4.0GHz processor, TB harddrive, and 700W PSU.

Whacha think, is it worth getting, or should I keep looking?

It really depends on what you plan to use your new computer for. I wouldn't recommend gaming with that video card.

I don't hardcore game, I play LoL and a few computer games like The Sims 3, Civ V, etc. I plan on playing Elder Scrolls online when it's released too. Would these games be too stressful on the card?

EDIT: I'll actually more than likely upgrade that card, it's pretty god awful, I didn't notice.

Well in that case, I would say this is a good deal. I don't think you will have a problem playing League, but with other higher end games you will have to play on lower settings. You can upgrade components in the future and not worry about having to upgrade the power supply. All and all, I think this is a really good build for the price. Remember though, this does not come with an operating system.

    I'm a pirate, arrwindows7.

Also, I think I'm going to look into linux, once I start getting into my 400-series for my computer science classes, they start making you use linux instead of windows or OSX

Haha yeah I wasn't going to recommend buying an OS. I was just merely pointing out the obvious. What Linux version do they make you use?

I've always had problems running linux, but good luck. PM me if you need any help with the build.

What's your budget? I'll help you pick out some better parts if you want.

No more than 750, but I was looking for a DIY full solutions build because they usually have $100+ bundle discounts.

But if you can beat this price, or come near with better parts, be my guest!

I personally would dish out the extra $100 for something like this. I don't exactly know what you're doing with this PC so I've just given you something general based on what I'd use.

    Things to look at

CPU: The AMD processors are good but with my lack of needing extra cores I generally stick to intel as they dominate otherwise. If you programs that run on 5+ cores or editing video/music or lastly on a budget I'd stick to the AMD or upgrade to a 6300 or 8320.

GPU: The 7790 will get you about ~40 FPS in BF3 and ~50 FPS in Skyrim both running on Ultra 1920 x 1080 with AA. Decent and the price tells it. Any upgrade around this price range will show you your moneys worth.

    RAM: Just go dual channel.

PSU: I honestly wouldn't cheap out here. IT's the heart of your system. 700W isn't really necessary, i'd probably go 600W but if you're doing upgrades it'll be fine. Also look for 80+.

Case: I don't know if you want a good looking case or not. If you can find a decent looking case that's cheap and has good airflow I don't see a reason why you'd want to spend upwards of 100$ for one.

Also I'd recommend making a few adjustments by finding a few cheaper items and investing in a SSD you'll see a massive improvement in performance. Just install your OS and main programs to it and the rest of your files onto the 1TB HDD.
