    New Years Tradition?

Out of curiosity, do you or your family have a "tradition" that you would do once the clock strikes 12 for New Years?

To start things of, my whole family would participate in an event called "coin tossing". Basically, when the clock strikes 12, a family member (which was me this year) would toss about $20-$30 worth of coins in the air and its basically a free-for-all from there. It gets pretty crazy, but its fun :D

Afterwards, we would eat 14 grapes, to commemorate the year of 2014, and we would make one wish for every grape we eat (so thats 14 wishes this year).

    That's pretty interesting haha.

We usually watch a movie with a bunch of snacks until midnight. Then at midnight we bang pots and pans or set off firecrackers and yell happy newyear. Pretty much everyone in our neighborhood does.

my family does something a bit like your coin toss, only, we throw dollar bills in the value of two times the year. since this year was 2014, we threw up $28. not a very large amount but it's just for fun, and it decides who buys the beer haha.

Been jumping into our swimming pool at exactly the stroke of midnight for the past 5-6 years. It's pretty awesome way to start the year, and super shocking considering it's 20-30 degrees out

Wow, you have some balls. I don't think I'd be able to talk my mom into jumping into 20 degree water however =p

    Fucking ouch.

In Scotland it's pretty traditional to light a fire or lots of candles to ward away bad spirits of the previous year and start fresh. This is done large-scale in Stonehaven - where there is an actual fireball ceremony:

Then on New Year's day there's a "dook" (scottish word lol) in the water all of over Scotland, which I suppose would be a "dip" to you guys.

I don't have any family traditions though.
