So, i'm looking to buy a new laptop. Looking for something with some decent specs so I can actually game on it a little. For the budget, well i'm not even that sure yet how much money do I have, but i'd very much rather if it's not over $1.5k.

So far, the ones that i've considered are:

SO YEAH. Looking for opinions, suggestions, etc.

I'm not sure how good this is for GAMING but I've been interested as it seems to have decent specs for the price.

I've never been one for gaming laptops as they seem kinda pointless, expensive, and unnecessary. You probably shouldn't go above 12-1300 USD for one

Does it have to be a laptop? Like, what other things will you be using it for?

Honestly I hadn't even heard of this brand til today that a friend mentioned it to me. Apparently they're like specialized in customized gaming laptops, so yeah.

I know that I can make a pretty good desktop for a fraction of the price if I just buy all the parts separately. However, don't really have much space in my house for a desktop. So there's that, besides I honestly just rather having a laptop. I work online, also deal with crypto's, so sorta like knowing I can just take my laptop with me wherever I go and go online anywhere.

Can go to the beach and just hook up to the hotels wifi and work from there

I would go for a desktop gaming PC dude, they're cheaper, last longer, you can build your own and very easy to open them up and modify them.

If you can't go for a desktop, then look at ASUS gaming laptops.

I'll take a look at the ASUS ones, compare specs/prices and see what's up with those. Any specific model or something you had in mind?

I support / +1 / stand by this opinion completely

A gaming desktop would be ideal, if space is an issue you can use something with a very small form factor. If you're doing crypto transactions you can use a mobile wallet temporarily for the trade. If you really want something to bring to a hotel or something with you maybe consider a tablet or a laptop/tablet hybrid for cheap on top of the desktop (I'm not sure).

I also highly recommend asus for gaming laptops. The two that I've owned have been of a very high build quality, lasted for years, and the support that you get is fantastic. I blew up my gpu at one point and they covered shipping, repairs, and shipping back without a cent of cost to me.

I have a gaming laptop for sale if your interested, add my Skype. I have an MSI, it's a little cheaper than some, I paid $1,500 for it. But honestly, I can't see the difference between my laptop and my friends Alienware.

Although, I haven't encountered any need to call customer support so I'm not sure how well they would be on that issue.

Never really been a fan of tablets so that's not gonna happen. Besides don't think I can even open all my work stuff on a tablet. I honestly haven't really even considered a desktop because of the reasons stated above, but I think i'm gonna take some measurements and see the space I have and look around for a nice desk.

Ugh I still need to buy new curtains for my room, and fix some damage that a leak had done to a wall. Might end up spending about the same amount total just cause of all the extra stuff i'd have to get done too if I want to set up a desk for a PC.

BUT, it's still an idea i'm evaluating. I can probably just keep this same laptop for whenever I need to hit the road, and just have my desktop there for well when i'm home obviously.

PM me the specs and price you have in mind.

So I looked around a bit, there's these other options too, or something like this one. Not really convinced by those though, still have my doubts.

    Edit:
Hadn't even seen your reply no idea why, perhaps I need some more sleep lol. I looked at those, there's this one which seems to be pretty much the same specs as the Alienware one for a little less. But for that matter we'd have this one again which has a bit more ram and and SSD drive too... For the same price.

I'll tell you right now not to buy a gaming laptop. But a portable laptop that does exactly what you NEED it to do, and invest in an upgradeable desktop for gaming. Trust me, I bought a gaming laptop and it's one of my biggest financial regrets. I paid approx. $1400 for an Asus G73SW when it came out and not even a year later I would be lucky to get $600 for it even though there has not been one issue with it and I've upgraded the HD and RAM which should make it worth at least a bit more.. nope.

What you have to look at is the fact that it will never be any better than it is when you buy it. You can't upgrade it as you can a desktop and when newer games come out it will be almost completely worthless. I bought this laptop to play Crysis 2 maxed out at 60 FPS and I could do that. Now, my laptop struggles to play newer games such as Battlefield 4 and FarCry 3 and there is nothing I can do about it short of selling my laptop for over a 60% loss and invest into a desktop like I should have done from the beginning.

Anyway, all these knuckleheads and probably OP will argue, give counterpoints, and all that shit but in reality, take it from someone who's been there. A gaming laptop is a waste of money, especially the customized Sager ones. If you MUST purchase, go with an Asus Republic of Gamers model and sell it before the new model comes out so you can save money.

Nope not really gonna argue, that's actually a very good point and some nice insight from someone who's gone through a similar situation. I had actually, thought of this same problem before. But i'm not really that much of a die hard gamer, I don't mind playing with a little lag or low res. I'm used to playing at like 15fps since never really had a good PC lol. Regardless, I do think that what you say is right.

Another option I had considered, is waiting for the new Steam Machine's, buying one of those and just dual booting it with Windows and the Steam OS as seen here. Apparently they're actually pretty badass, and they look pretty good too. There isn't much space for upgrading things in them however, as you can see in that video. But I think it could be doable.

I'll have to look into how much is getting my room fixed and a desk that fits there would cost, then look for the parts and see what it ends adding up to. Maybe the better choice is to just keep this laptop for when I gotta hit the road, and a nicer desktop at home.

Yeah, I was just throwing that out there as an option. I'm not a huge fan of tablets either but I was thinking you could pick up a $200 tablet or something with a stand and a keyboard and take that with you. If that doesn't work though it doesn't work.

If it were me doing it I'd just get a desktop, then use the laptop I already had for when I had to travel. (Like you said)

Well considering the possibility of just building a desktop instead, here's what I sorta planned out could be the computer i'd make:

    Processor: i7 4770k
    GPU: XFX R9 290X
    PSU: XFX 1050w
    HDD's:120GB SSD and 1TB HDD
    MoBo: ASUS Sabertooth Z87
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB, might upgrade to 16GB later on.
Case: Not sure, perhaps a Thermaltake Chaser A71.

Then just any optical drive, a couple fans and an SSD card reader probably.

Still need to figure out what to do though, since I might just wait it out a little bit as there's a possibility i'll move sometime soon, so wouldn't fix the things in my house yet or buy a desk as it might not fit in the new place.

If your budget is 1.5K I suggest you spend 1K on a gaming desktop and you can get a nice laptop for around $500 for work on the go.

Stick with the sager laptops, or an MSI GT series. They're COMPLETELY upgradable which is good for the long haul. You can upgrade CPUs AND graphics cards in them, unlike ASUS and others that claim to make gaming laptops. While Asus makes nice laptops, I don't find them to be of great value due to the fact you can't upgrade GPUs and they hold value poorly due to that.

I would look into getting one of the sager SLI capable laptops. Start off with a single card and add a second one when you need more power. Then you can upgrade to the latest generation later down the road if need be, and replace them both up to the latest model.
