Sythe, what is your first memory of using the internet?

Mannn, those were the days haha. Everything was impressive & awesome. I feel old now..

 

One of my first memories was using the internet while in elementary school in the computer lab.

There was this flash game on the lego site that we would all play the hell out of... Good memories.

In middle school we got a computer and had 56k dialup which I would play Everquest on. That game consumed me.... I'd skip school for days at a time just to play it.

PC was an old Celeron 500mhz CPU w/ 256mb of RAM, cheapo radeon video card, and a huge ass CRT monitor. Good times.

After that, my dad bought me an Alienware as a late christmas present with his income tax return, and by this point I was heavily into Counter-Strike. We had DSL at the time, and I would host my own dedicated server which worked great up to 12 players. Made a lot of friends whom I still keep in contact with today.

 

Surprised to hear so many people have early experiences with neopets. That is one of my first memories as well. My older cousin was playing the hide and go seek game on neopets and it looked cool so I asked my mom if I could make an account. She signed up for me (I still use the same silly screen name today for nostalgia). I played neopets for a couple years even, had millions and rare pets by the time I was done. All on dialup of course.

Never had to do things at the library, we've had computer and internet in our homes since I was born.

I also remember at school they had this game about this cricket who had boxing gloves. It must have been educational some how but I honestly have no idea. I'd wait and pray and hoped it would rain so we would have indoor recess and I could play. Sometimes we would even beg the teacher to stay in the classroom and eat lunch so a couple of us could play. Guess I've been a nerd since I was little xP!

 

Yeah I think everyone played neopets as a kid at one point or another haha. I know I've had a couple accounts banned for one reason or another, several w/ full lab map, and tons of NP. That game was the shit back then.

 

Yeah, I quit around the time neopets was sold and advertisements/microtransactions started taking place.

At the time I even had a subscription to the real life neopets magazine, I still have a few copies that I've held onto =p


What did you do to get banned rofl? I was too scared as a kid to rwt. I just used the stock market/world challenges/special events to get rich.

 

One of the bans was for an offensive neopet name lol. Can't remember the others. Account sharing I think.

 

I remember using my old smoke blower as a computer, haha. Getting access to the internet took literally ageeees for me. It wasn't dial up. My routine as a kid was get home, watch yu gi oh or metabots, fairly odd parents or whatever epic show was on, play on the computer for I think 30 minutes per day (was my max). My First internet game would have to go to heli attack on miniclip. I saw some kids play it at school and played it a home. 30 minutes felt like a TON of time back then to play on a game. On miniclip I then saw runescape and here I am, like 10 years later playing rs. =/

First memory of using the internet? Well, when I was 5 or 6 my uncle moved to Vancouver and gave me his computer for god knows whatever reason. For the most part I played games like jumpstart kids, magic school bus, ect.. One day my neighbor came over and flipped when he saw the computer in my room. He gave me the run down on the internet, and we basically built our friendship around playing games on that thing lol.

I was around 10(9 years ago), My first game was Habbo Hotel the joy of running home from school playing this game was unreal

 

I spent about 3 years browsing various pokemon and digimon fansites and wandering around on Worlds.com and then Neopets came out in 2000 and I got addicted to that. A few years later I got addicted to Habbo, and then I got addicted to Runescape in maybe 2004/5.

My days of Runescape & Habbo are probably my fondest memories, but the days of socialising on Worlds.com in the mid-late 90s are probably my earliest.

You guys should check out Worlds.com - it's probably one of the creepiest games still around. You log on and go to places like Hanson World (they were popular at the time lol) - totally surreal.

This is exactly like me, I was addicted to marapets.com for a long time, found my way to habbo and I was addicted to that for a few years, moved to Runescape for a year or so, now totally and utterly addicted to WoW.

 

Mine was in like the 3rd grade, I never actually did anything, but just to get on my mom's nerves while she was on the phone. I entered into NetZero and I could instantly hear my mom through the modem say "Cody, get the fuck off the computer!" I'm not entirely sure if it was the modem, or my mom was insanely loud. It was like 10 years ago, Who knows. Lol

 

The earliest game I can remember playing was a flash-based alien blasting game. After that it was Cartoonnetwork and Disney channel games.

 

I also used to go to the library to play Adventure Quest, after that I switched to RuneScape (it was also on Miniclip.com back then).
Also before that if a computer had no internet, I used to play Doom.

 

Not exactly sure when I first used the internet specifically, but I remember in elementary school playing Oregon Trails on the computer. Lol.. fun game.

 

haha i remember using dial up it was like "preuhdshtisinfininkankadintka beepbeeepp" and then it lets you connect for about 10 minutes (or until you get a phone call). I remember me and a few friends a long time ago used to go down to the library by our school and play runescape when it was the cool thing to do.
