Is college the right choice for everyone?

I Just started college, and about to finish my first semester. So far, I've hated it. I haven't made many / any friends, I'm getting lower grades than I expected (C's and B's) and i'm just generally not happy.

Is college key to being successful? Like, if I dropped out, would I be able to support myself / a family?

I also don't want to disappoint my parents (Neither of my sisters finished college. 1 Is doing alright for herself, the other is living home at 22 w/ no job).
I'm going for business right now, at a very good business school, as I felt like following in my fathers footsteps who's very successful and is earning 250k+ a year.

What would income be without a college education? Like, I know you can't give me an exact number, but what sort of jobs would I be able to get?

And i've always had a though of opening my own stores / franchises or something of the sort. Is that a good or bad idea? I don't know, i'm kinda just trying to find things to do if I can't complete college.

    Any suggestions?

Honestly, if you're unsure on what to do, stay in college until you're 100% sure. I got my associates a semester early and figured I'd want to go back after a semester off. Its now been almost 2 full years and I havent gone back.

If you want to own your own business, all you need really is an associates. Basic accounting, managerial principals, business etiquette etc. The rest you learn as you go.

If you want to do anything else in business, I highly suggest a bachelors in something such as management etc so you have a degree to get a better job.

It depends, some people are extremely successful once they drop out of college and start their own business, take a lot of big brand names like Harvey Norman. (Not sure if this is an Australian only business, but he dropped out in year 10 and earns MILLIONS a year now)

College is stressful, and it never will be a walk in the park because you're there to learn, educate yourself, I wouldn't quit now unless you're 100% sure you can support yourself and go into something else. But, a really big BUT, lots of businesses fail and don't make it and the owner goes broke. It's the risk you take.

C's here are average, not sure about the USA, but if you're getting C's and B's you should be happy.

College isn't always the best choice for everyone.... most people that go end up wasting their money, in your case your parent's money, I think that would annoy them to most. The reason everyone wastes money is because half the time, people don't even pursue a career in what they went to school for.

My brother makes 20 an hour printing a local magazine without going to college. Another friend makes 24 an hour working at the walmart distribution center where they ship out all of their stuff. There are plenty of jobs you can find where you make well enough money to support your family, just don't expect to make 250,000 a year or more unless you get lucky and come across a sweet gig.

Dude get a job with a company where you able to progress a move up, work in a proffession where the company yo work for can offer you training, such as attending college/university part time or something, that was you're earning money, getting free education and have chance for promotions aaaaaand you're achieving work experience!

This is exactly what I have done and I've not even got A levels, I've got AS levels, I like in the UK I'm 18 currently earning £23,000, I've done a year and a half at University too. Apprenticeships are the way forward in this current day and age I believe.

Don't do something you don't enjoy, cos you'll never succeed in it how you should, nor be happy.

    Good luck boss

Definitely not everyone. Some people aren't smart enough and rely on apprenticeships and others are smart enough to take an entrepreneurial route. If anything, college/uni is for the average person in between.

Of course college is a right choice. Think about it this way, any company would rather choose a college graduate over a highschool graduate. Look at the military, if you join after highschool, you'll start out as a private and can only reach the rank after sergeant.

But if you finish college, you start out at 2nd lieutenant. I hope you get what I mean. Finding jobs will be so much easier as a college graduate

Its so competitive out there now a days that even after college you are not guaranteed a job. If you really don't like it, don't do it.. Go and find a job that you will enjoy doing.. I personally think that doing something you love is better than doing something you hate for money..

Would you rather live 50 years happy or 100 years unhappy?

Power is knowledge, college isnt the only way to get far in life. Look at People like Bill gates, dropped out of school to go onto achieve. having said that the possibility of that happening is small :(
