While I do believe mass rapists, murders and all the other crime committees of the sorts should rot in jail for eternity, I also believe they shouldn't be granted life either.

And honestly, if prisoners were just executed instead of being held without bail/probation for life, the amount of money the united states wastes on jailing would be significantly reduced.

We used to execute in the old days for crimes far less serious than what were seeing now, I don't see why people oppose it.

In my opinion, crime is a joke in the UK. You can get away with atleast 8 years for murder; let alone it taking about 2 years to sentence the defendant anyway.

I however do not support the death penalty. Reason being that it is an easy way out for people who simply do not care. But at the same time, we need to alter our criminal system so that when prisoners come out, they don't have even more hatred than they did when they went in.

When people go to prison, they end up committing crime again when they get out anyway, simply because of the way they are treated in prison.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you're going to send someone to prison for a high profile crime, make it for life.

Why would you bother letting them out when there just going to do the same thing again? Unless they show clear remorse and change in themselves, just keep them in.

    "A life for a life"
only problem with this is innocent people get killed that's why i like the way the state of Texas deals with people it keeps them on death row for a few years before they are killed, this allows any further evidence to come fourth before execution.

An eye for an eye, i believe if the crime committed involved murder of sorts, the death penalty should be an option

I personally believe in the death penalty simply because i think if they did a crime bad enough to get it like rape murder so on and so forth they deserve to die, some argue that no matter what they did no one should be killed for it well when they get a life sentence they are as good as dead. So i don't see what the big deal is.

I have not read through all of the current statements but here is my opinion on the matter. "The authors calculated that, if the Governor commuted the sentences of those remaining on death row to life without parole, it would result in an immediate savings of $170 million per year, with a savings of $5 billion over the next 20 years." So those of you claiming that putting them to death would be the cheaper option it is not. The death penalty is actually extremely expensive. I personally believe that we don't have the right to take away someones life. Taking away their life doesn't justify anything and it doesn't bring back the person who was lost. All it does is bring us down to the standards of those who did the killing or whatever the crime maybe in the first place.

I'm going to make it short and simple... Yes I believe in the death penalty. Why? I won't say people don't deserve to live but things become an issue when we have example: a man who has murdered lots of innocent children and openly admits to it.

I don't believe death sentence should be allowed. That's letting them get off easy.

For starters, the whole eye for an eye, limb for a limb, life for a life.. It makes sense, but doesn't. If one is to take a life, their life is forfeit. That said, I don't believe taking their life makes up for it. They don't suffer that way. Cruelty is needed to tame a beast, I guess.

If the crime is really severe like if they murdered someone, than yes. You take a life yours gets taken in return. Pretty fair isn't it?, but i think the family of the victim should have a say, they should choose wether they want the person to rot in jail or be killed.

1 would say,, making someone siti in prison for the remainder of their life, would be much bigger punishment rather than just killing him...either way, they can't harm society anymore...but if you want them to suffer, deffinately prison time

If the person has commited a horrible crime such as murder then then yes they should be put on the death penalty. A life for a life. But it should be up to them and their family on what happens.

I say kill them, not humanely.

If you're 100% proven guilty with hard evidence. Just give him to the families of the loved ones and they can choose what to do with him.

If they let him go, so be it.

Do you believe in the death penalty?

I live in Texas, where it is legal. I'm for it, and here's why: Some people cannot be cured or fixed due to severe mental diseases. No, I'm not referring simply to Alzheimer's, CTE, or Autism. I'm referring to the mass murderers, pedophiles, and those who are deemed as a threat to and incapable of coexisting in society. People like those cannot be fixed and should be put down. It doesn't have to be the electric chair, it could be something as painless as lethal injection.

From a political standpoint, if it were done correctly, expediently, and the crime were heinous enough then it is far more cost efficient than life imprisonment. Morally, however, I can't justify ending another human's life.
