Will runescape die out?

I am hesitant in keeping any fair amount of RS gold in my account and I always exchange it for $ immediately.

RS is dying imo, and at any moment, jagex could impose new trading rules or even decide to shut down RS completely.

Are my fears in place or I shouldn't worry and treat RS gold as if it's bitcoins or a currency?

 

Definitely don't treat it as bc or currency. It WILL die out. There's no reason for GP to go up. It's not like there can be a sudden lack of it.

 

You don't have to worry about Runescape shutting down so suddenly that your gold becomes worthless and that you shouldn't carry any on your account. The time is takes for an MMO to die takes years, and the people who run them don't stand to gain anything from just shutting down the game. All they have to do is withdraw support and promote microtransactions (which is what they have been doing for the past 2 years) which causes the game to die out slowly, while still producing money.

 

RS gold WILL die out eventually. I agree with the above post. RS gold is just in-game currency, and eventually it will be worth nothing.

Economics states that a currency will be worth more if it's more flexible. But right now, rs gold can only be used to exchange for USD and perhaps other in-game items.

Now relate this to the cold hard cash you have right now, you can use it to buy food, to buy clothings. BUT CAN you use rs gold to buy food? Buy clothings? Not directly, no. That's why it's worth as much as it is.

 

It is Jagex's main source of income. It won't die off anytime soon, but it won't go the other way either.

 

The microtransactions lead the way for a closing down, when I log in all I see are advertisements. still got another 2-3 years though regardless.

 

While there are enough people playing the 3 versions of the game, they won't shut it down but everything ends at some point. I just don't see Jagex giving up until there is absolutely no options left.

 

RS isn't going to die out until the day it loses money. Even if there are only 5k players over all the servers, if 3k of them are members, they're making jagex close to £15k/month. There is currently 465,164 members listed on the highscores, and I believe you have to be a member to be on the highscores. If so, that means at £4.99 it's over £2m/month. That's £25,000,000+ a year still.

 

That's some nice numbers if they make that.

 

Only if jagex knew the only way to save the game was to advertise more which they're too stupid/ignorant to accomplish...let me run that company 4 real tho

 

Slowly, yes. Expect the death of the game in the next 8-10 years.

 

Think of it as , their will always be money in runescape, and it cant go down at all , the more money is out there the cheaper the costs for RWT will be.

Example : Runescape 07 Released and within 2 weeks , 50k gold is worth $3-5
Runescape 07 been online for several months , 5m Gold = $15ish

 

I think it would be half of that 4-6 years :'(

I think RuneScape is dying, but, it's your RSGP.

 

Runescape is Jagex's cash cow.

As long as they can keep milking it for all it's worth, they will. Once the profit starts to dry up, maybe then they'll put it out to pasture.


I've run out of cow-related metaphors, but yeah, there's still plenty of life left in Runescape. You've got to remember that while many players are becoming dissatisfied and leaving the game, there are many more discovering the game and/or becoming members for the first time.

 

Based on the latests jagex updates and threads I would say they are in for the long term. Although I do no see why GP prices would rise as the player base keeps decreasing.

 

i think ye the price will drop rapidly for rs3 either 07

 

but the ratio of players leaving then new ones coming is much bigger :c

 

It doesn't have to be equal for the game to still have plenty of years left in it. But hey, that's just my opinion.
