How ridiculous are these things?

Absolutely ridiculous.. A new crime branch will arise from this.

 

It's a great marketing campaign by Amazon, other than that they are probably useless.

 

Simply they won't work, society is so fucked up there's always gonna be someone to track those things down.

 

Too bad they'll be available in 2015 and only in US, but it looks like good idea but only in 'Perfect world' without crime etc. 1 thing that worries me how will they protect them? SO noone will for example steal package or just shoot it.

 

Great minds think alike; this is exactly what I was thinking too. I think the inventors have watched too many Sci-Fi movies.

 

People vandalizing or stealing them won't be the worst of the problem. Weather will be a big issue. I think that it's more of an attention grabber to show off amazon rather than the delivery method of the future.

I would like to hope that Amazon would cover the cost of any lost/stolen/intercepted packages. The drones are bound to have GPS tracking, and if for some reason one goes down before making it to the destination and/or never returns, they'd cover the cost/refund.

Thing I'd be concerned about is how they plan to cover the cost of the drones themselves if/when they get shot down/stolen/intercepted.

 

I think its more a publicity stunt than anything else.

 

As others have said this is definitely a marketing stunt. I think we will see drones in Amazon warehouses before we see them making deliveries.

 

Ridiculous or not, I'm glad they're at least trying a new form of delivery. They're also keeping the USPS alive by trying to get them to delivery on Sundays.

 

This is really cool and something that I'd definitely use at least somewhat frequently.

They definitely have a few concerns to work out first, like those mentioned in this thread, but I think we'll be seeing these sometime in the not-too-distant future.

 

You don't have to be a genius to figure this out. It is an obvious marketing trick right before the holiday shoppings. This will not happen in reality and everyone who shared this grap on facebook or anywhere at all did a well job advertising amazon.

Interesting. As others have said, more than likely just a marketing ploy. Still, nonetheless interesting.

 

This seems really cool, and I'm sure they have already thought of/are thinking of ways to deal with people intercepting packages.

Wonder how high they'd be flying these? Too low you'd be worrying about hitting building/someone shooting them down. Too high you'd be worrying about hitting planes and stuff.

I can't really see this happening any time soon.

 

If they pulled this off with the whole 30 minute delivery thing too, it would be nothing short of a miracle. Would be brilliant though!
