Are less people playing

alot less and less people playing, games becoming something completely different to what it started out as and turning into Wow and other similer games like that going into a market with all them types of games they cant compete..

 

I don't think the game will ever recover if they keep going the way they're going. I (a hard core rs fan) have quit entirely, which is something that I never expected to happen so long as they kept the game going. I simply don't like rs3, to the point where logging in is no longer enjoyable.


edit: And yeah, sure I could play 07. But I don't really feel like spending years getting back to the point I was at, just for Jagex to go out of business because of the complete lack of regard that they have for the playerbase. I mean really, its been 10+ years and they still don't have a custom support team, I mean what the hell?

 

This is my exact feeling. I have a botted 07 account which has dust collecting on it now.

Gud times,But yeah the game wont recover. I mean jagex had a good run but the way things are going,I cant see the game ever making a comeback. Itll just die out and shut down or something.

Yep! I remember when it was popular, the REAL RS. Not some nonsense, crap, a very few people like... 2004 - 2010 was the REAL deal. So many people playing back then, w1 was often full those days, now it's p2p and dead (one of the things jagex did to the game) and it always had v-square full. not anymore... nobody is there... on ANY world. it just proves how RS became... dead... and Jagex killed it with their stupid unneeded updates.

Less than there was a couple years back, yeah. But those quitting are made up for in new players I guess. The game will decline majorly in the next couple of years though, for sure.

 

i had a comped account, with over a years login time just on that account under my belt.
it was so much fun, logging in knowing my clan had a war later that day, or if i got bored of skilling i could go and dark bow people at clan wars in max void gear. now it's just horrible, it's a chore to logon and i really really can't be bothered with it anymore. noones online, and if they are then i barely know them/my friends sold their accounts without my knowledge lmao.
all the communities i used to participate in, warring, pvp, clan wars, dungeoneering all dead completely and it really really sucks.
i just don't find the game fun since they implemented the eoc, i did kinda learn to live with it and just dunge/skill, but the NIS was the final blow, the games gone to shit, hanging on to those who can't quit and love the game too much

I haven't seen one full world in rs3 in ages, and both W1 and W2 (when W1 was f2p) used to be full or close to full a few years back >.<

 

Shouldn't judge the quality of RuneScape or its community on number of people in each world. It's a really poor approach, and here's why.

Case 1: Old merchant worlds like 1 and 2. These worlds will NEVER be full like they used to be because they have lost their traditional use. Originally, they were used for merchanting. But with the grand exchange, we no longer need merchanting worlds. Any trades worth more than max gp are done on the forums or via clan/friend chats. Once gambling got popular, these worlds were used for well.... gambling. Now that gambling is against the rules, the worlds have no special use. So you can expect them to not be full.

Case 2: The rest of the worlds. Previously, botting was rampant thanks to people like users at Sythe (lulz). This meant that Jagex needed many worlds to hold both the actual users and the bots. Also, more worlds allowed users to sufficiently compete with bots for many resources. Thanks to Jagex cracking down hard on botting, it's no longer such an issue. With most of the bots gone, the worlds are no longer as full. This is why Jagex was (and still is? I'm not sure) considering removing some of the worlds.

Better indicators of the quality of the state of the game are looking at how active the forums are and how many people are online on average/at peak times. One can also consider how much dead content there is while realizing that content in games like these naturally dies over time and gets replaced or updated.

 

A lot of factors are leading to this, let's think of this as more of outside the box.

First of all, runescape was probably made and designed to attract a certain generation and era of kids. And that era or generation began 5-10 years ago. Right now, most of the kids who played those days or 5-10 years ago have begun some sort of "life" now. I'm not implying those who played Runescape have no life because I was a player myself before, but I'm saying they're all grown up, they have a job, they simply don't have the time, they get exhausted, tired after the job, they probably have to tend with family matters, boyfriends, girlfriends, relationship issues, admin matters. There simply isn't no time left to play, not only there isn't enough time, but it's also not an advantage to continue playing anymore. With more and more updates targeted to self and individual rather as a whole or community, it's becoming less and less interactive, but does Jagex actually realize this?

Soon, it will come to an end, and Jagex have made quite a lot of money already, from memberships to bonds, to gold packages, from adverts you see on f2p games.

JaGeX made a bad decision when they took away staking, and banned gambling. Less people are paying for membership now. There was more of a community when staking & gambling was around.

Community = More ACTIVE Players.

There are 200M RS Players?

Mostly everyone has created over 3 RuneScape accounts. I owned around 20+ Before I was into the gambling business. 200M players includes botters I think. So... RuneScape had around 50M botted accounts?

EoC made tons of people quit, RS3 made another ton of people quit.

 

Ugh, don't even open up that can of worms. I really miss dice hosting on runescape :/

 

They removed a lot of servers when they did the so called 'bot nuke', and even so, the current worlds feel almost like a single player game, completely deserted,

 

To me, I think the rs3 population is decreasing. W2 never has that much ppl as it used to have. Then again, who knows what will happen with the new updates that are going into the game. I like 07 tho tbh

 

I think RS peaked and has been declining for a while now. I had fun with 07 for a bit but it grew old soon after. I personally think like 2012 was the most fun time for me in RuneScape.

 

That is because most of the trade that went on there (Gambling) went underground, there isn't really any appeal to being in World 1 or 2
