How to treat aches around the upper body?

    Hey guys,

so I often have Rugby practice bi-weekly, and whenever I come home, my upper body would ache just a little. But when I go to sleep and wake up the next day, my upper body just aches and it's difficult to move about.

How can I treat this? Is there any possible remedy? I tried showering in cold water, but it doesn't really doesn't seem to help much.

    Does ice do anything?

Sounds like something to see your general practitioner about really though. It might just be an ache now but later in life it could have serious implications.

Never tried using ice to relieve the aches before, is it effective?

And I have been having the aches constantly for the past 2 years, it's just kind of got too annoying for me today.

Ice merely dulls the pain in injuries, it won't solve it. It sounds like yours is internal however so I doubt it would do anything.

From the amount of time it has been going on for definitely hit up your general practitioner.

That's always the case. Same as working out. Your body will ache the next day. It's all normal and natural. If the aching is far too much however, and persists for days on after, then you may have torn something/internal bruising.

This is normal, usually 24 hours later means it could just be muscle soreness. The level of pain should start decreasing as your body gets more used to it. If you have a feeling it may be something more serious, you should see a doctor incase.

I've been playing rugby since I was a tot, and I can tell you nothing but "get used to it". I'm absolutely floored most Monday mornings. Just part of the course. It will hurt significantly less over time but the general feeling will always be there after a session or tough match - it's a demanding sport. If it's hindering you more than you'd like you've probably chosen the wrong sport, it's very intensive and hard on the body - especially the upper body.

Yeah, it hurts less over time. I am guessing it could be because I crashed too much on that particular training and having bruises + aches really just topped my tolerance level the next day.

I suggest just taking hot baths and get a massage, it usually helps loosen the muscles.

As mentioned partially above you may want to see a professional regarding this, it could be something more serious, which could result in some form of prescription such as taking a muscle relaxant before you to go bed (which of course you should use only in a responsible way).
