Biggest disappointment

I wouldn't be too bummed. As impressive as your accolades are I don't think they warrant a $200k scholarship, those usually go to the kids that excel academically (GPA/Standardized tests) along with out-of-this-world extracurriculars like the 15 year old kid that came up with the groundbreaking Pancreatic Cancer early detection test, or a grand prize Intel International Science & Engineering Fair winner.

Kid I used to tutor had arguable a more impressive resume than yours and was overlooked by both scholarship foundations as well as a ton of top tier schools. He did end up with a full ride to Dartmouth so I guess all's well, but I honestly thought he'd be making it rain with his acceptance letters and have his pick of which Ivy League/Stan/MIT he was going to attend. He was an ORM (Chinese) so he has it worse than you in terms of race. If both of you were Black/Native American/Latino I'm sure you guys would be swimming in acceptance letters and scholarship money, but such is life.

-4.5 something GPA out of 4, Rank 5 in a top 50 public school (Rank #2 school district)
-National Championships for Math Counts
-Nationals for Speech & Debate. Also judged numerous competitions and helped run the summer camp for Debate at his local HS (Paid position)
-Won numerous Chess tournaments
-Eagle Scout, OA Brotherhood Member, served as SPL & JASM, ~200+ Volunteer hours from this alone
-Tutored Math & Science (paid)
-35 ACT, 2340 SAT
-National Merit Finalist
-Don't recall his composite, but he scored 710 on Math in the Duke Talent Search in 7th grade and was invited to Duke University's gifted and talented summer program back-to-back summers everything paid ($5k COA per summer)
-NHS Treasurer or some sort of leadership position
-11 AP exams with a 4 or higher
-Trilingual (English/Chinese/Spanish)

Denied from all the Ivy Leagues he applied to (sans Dartmouth) including Columbia which his father attended, was a top 16 finalist for the McDermott but ultimately didn't get anything, etc etc.

I proofread a couple of his personal statements and they were written at a high level. They didn't stand out per se (good or bad), but there were definitely no red flags in his application.

Was about a week before Christmas, he asked to borrow it for a screenshot (this was wayyyyy before lending) and he gave me like 5m of stuff to hold onto while he held my Santa. He teletabbed right after the trade and said he wanted to borrow it for a couple days while he did some Pest Control. I begged for it back but he said not to worry and that he'd give it to me the next day so I let him hold onto it (like I had any other choice). He ended up deleting me off his friends list the next day and that's when I was a lot more cautious with my precious pixels.

Injuring my girlfriend (and myself, but honestly that was w/e) pretty critically in a car accident is probably my biggest disappointment ever. I was so disappointed in myself; if I saw whatever we hit on the road, I could have just dodged it so easily. I still can't get over the guilt, and sometimes I have flashbacks to right before we started rolling when all I could hear was the panic in her voice.

I am interested in why this was your biggest disappointment, were you originally from the US? I always thought moving to Australia would be amazing. I am from us and still there.

Life long football (Soccer) fan. Got in with the 'wrong' crowd and turned into your typical 'Hooligan'... Ended up with a 3 year ban from EVERY football game in England, and have to hand my passport in when England play abroad.

Don't get me wrong; they aren't the wrong crowd for me. I love them all and trust them with my life, BUT, When the Judge aid guilty and slapped a banning order on me....

 

Not getting in contact with my father, and then finding out he'd killed himself.

EDIT: Right now my biggest disappointment is myself, but I guess only I can change that.

 

Coming out of school with the grades i didnt expect :/, still got into college though so i guess it's nothing compared to what other people are saying.

OT: Hard to think of a time that I've actually been OVERTLY disappointed. It's a tossup between either:

- Getting to Japan and realising I was placed on a dormitory with no internet connection
- Losing a Starcraft 2 match to nothing but Protoss Dark Templars.
- Missing out on straight High Distinctions by about 3%

 

Biggest dissapointment: I was in chef school that lasts for 3 years. At 2.5 years my back got fucked up and i couldnt stand for longs times, So i had to take 6 months break from school. 3 months ago i went back to school and i was intended to finish it, Until i was told that i got 1k hours to make back and i wouldnt have time to do them back. So i wasted 2.5 years to that shit, I still havent told my grandmother that i had to quit. Shes too proud of me.

 

Damn dude.
