Need Help connecting a Wireless Xbox controller to my Laptop

Okay so I bought the official Xbox Wireless controller so the adaptor I have is the official Microsoft one too. I have looked for help on this issue everywhere but can't find the answer. My wireless receiver has been installed correctly and I have also installed the Windows 7 64bit software.

At this stage you are supposed to press the xbox home button, then the connect button on the wireless receiver, and then the connect button on the controller. I do this and my controller does not connect. After trying to connect for about a second it just stops and goes back to flashing.

I have seen that this is a problem if the wireless receiver is an unrecognised USB device, however mine isn't and has successfully installed, which is why I am so confused as to why it is not working.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, would also happily Skype screenshare or Teamviewer if need be.

    Many thanks in advance.

not sure how to help ya here other than I've never seen anyone use an xbox controller unless it's the cabled model.
I personally use the PS3 controller, and connect it via my laptop's built-in Bluetooth module.
