so, who realistically had the upper hand?

Hello, today I want to share a story that happened to me at college. Our school hosted a sumo wrestling event, where two opponents would wear a fat suit type thing and wrestle it out until someone got knocked out of the arena. There were no rules per say, so a 230 lb guy could go vs a 150 lb guy. So I decided to try my luck and went up against the reigning, 3 win streak champ who is a 6 foot 3 220+lb male. I weigh 145 lb, male, 5 foot 6-7. I got thrown out round one, like a rag doll due to bad technique. Round two I went for the legs and tackled him out at full power. He was shocked. Round 3 (tie breaker) I repeated my strat and won again. My friends, and the other 200+ people watching cheered me on hardcore. However everone was sure the other guy would win. So, let me know; should I have won, which I did, or should I have lost (statistically speaking) I can't wait to see your answers =)

Could you give us more information on these *Fat Suits* please?
There are several reasons why, physics, momentum, etc.
I'm thinking the most likely reason would be his center of gravity was off due to the suit and because you went for his legs, he just crumpled.

If this is true, you went by the rules and didnt cheat. You won, he had his guard down when and where it was the perfect opportunity to strike. You deserve it as you won fair and square.

But for someone who is a 3 win streak champ, and that big built, I find it hard that you took him down. Unless you're really good at wrestling or got lucky with the technique.

Or that. Ive never been in a fat suit, but Ive done bjj and it is tough to take down someone in your weight class, let alone a good 80lbs on you.

It's not surprising. I've seen skinny people bench 230 lb. It's all technique.

Actually I feel I just got lucky with technique, ive never wrestled in my life. But I am quite strong for a small guy, I do 100 push up and squat religiously every day for the past 4 months =s

The fat suits make it kinda hard to bend down. But not too hard if you have some strength. But your theory makes sense

Glutes are the largest muscles of the body, and squatting helps. That is where most of your power must have come from, your arms alone arent strong enough to push someone that has 80 lbs on you.

He may have tried bending which could have put him off balance if you pushed somewhere around his waste while grabbing his legs. In other words he would have done the pulling required when attempting such a take down. In wrestling you grab their legs with your hands and pull while your upper body pushes his upper body.

so, who realistically had the upper hand?

you used his momentum against him and your technique was good. you got him at a weak point and destabilized him. its simple. technique over size.

Pretty sure it isn't sumo wrestling the moment you go for his legs lol

If there were no rules, you won.

it's hard to judge a fight and pinpoint anything when your both wearing sumo suits, I really don't think they reflect a persons technique or ability..
