You should probably look up what the word ideals mean before you throw it out there. How would I "not know anything" about my own ideals? You could argue that they're wrong, but you can't argue that I "don't know them."

I'm not trying to minimize the deaths, or remembering important events etc. I'm just saying this isn't something that we should be celebrating.


Millions died, including plenty of civilians and if you look at the different governments motivations carefully its easy enough to tell that they aren't all for "freedom" or some great moral cause. That's not why wars happen I'm afraid.

If you're afraid of other opinions and all you wanted to hear was "god bless the troops" "rest in peace heroes" then go post on a veterans forum.

Generally one should consider the meaning of a whole sentence instead of just looking at the second half. Spam forum or not, you should really put some effort into not looking ignorant. It might help..

I didn't say that, I just said that we shouldn't be celebrating/honoring it period. Fighting for the governments economic and imperialistic motivations even under the veil of "protecting your country" isn't excuse enough imo.

Why would I recommend it to someone if I haven't myself? I just finished taking two back to back semesters of history starting just before ww1.

Seems legit. Even if we were "celebrating" the people who fought who gives a shit, they died for good reasons and some more selfish reasons. Thats even more of a reason to remember.
