    Computer making a sound...

Sooooo, the other day I spontantiously purchased a new computer, woot...

But soon as I turned it on, it made a sound - it's a rattling, vibrating, crinkling sound. The sound starts quiet gets louder, stops - repeats.

I contacted the site I got my computer from and they replied:

Now, could this be a thing? I know nothing about computers, this doesn't sound like a 'initializing' problem it sounds like a poorly manufactured problem. I can hear the noise from the bathroom lol..

    ^ thats the sound

    Thanks

I think your fan (most likely graphic card one) moved abit and it makes that noise, because it hits other part of Graphics card, maybe CPU. If you can't fix it yourself I suggest you to bring it to IT service, it's the matter of regulation few screws.

The place I got it from replied and said it's the sound the hard drive makes when it's processing data.. I've read on any site I've gone to that a NEW hard drive shouldn't make any sound.. The constant grinding and churning sound is driving me mad, and I can't say I'm down to pay the return shipping on a product that I believe to be faulty. :(

It's not HDD, I'm pretty sure it's problem with one of your fans, I had the same problem in 1 of my comps.

    Computer making a sound...

It only makes the sound when the led on the front of the computer is solid/flashing? The customer support has offered me a part refund if I was to return the hard drive back and recommended I purchase a WD Green Model which I've picked out to be - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1TB-WD-WD...K_Computing_HardDrives_RL&hash=item53ff0e3ce4

I guess it's worth a try, changing the hard drive and getting this new one would be cheaper then the return postage for a refund..

It's not the HDD, if you want to check just put another HDD and problem will still exist. It's something with montage of fan on graphic card or CPU, maybe some cable hits it, maybe its just wrongfully montaged and it hits radiator.

I took the hard drive out of my computer and tested it in Jonathan's computer and it made the sound, so I'm going to assume it's the hard drive since Jonathan's computer never made that sound before I put it in. I'm shocked tbh, I never knew a hard drive could be so loud...

*surprised* :O so if you moved ONLY HDD to Jonathan's computer and it made the same sound that must be the problem :p Didn't expect it through to be so loud too

Yup to check your HDD model go to start -> rightclick computer -> menage -> device menager -> disk drives
ST is seagate and WDC is western digital, those are main HDD producents
For example if I got there ST500DM002-1BD142 ata device that's Seagate 500DM002

    Seagate ST3750640NS (I think)

I've gone ahead and purchased a new Hard drive, apparently these ones are meant to be super quiet lol.. basically £30 more after shipping and the next hard drive but twice the size and half the sound.. I hope :(

    Computer making a sound...

If I would have seen this thread earlier I could have helped c:

Yeah, some hard drives can be incredibly loud. I build a computer recently and threw in an old 1tb hdd that someone had given me and it made the worst grinding sound when it fired up. I bought an adapter cage and threw in a 500gb notebook hdd instead and its a bit quieter, still pretty loud though. Lower end hard drives tend to do that..

The other common thing that I see is the power supply is a little loose causing it to vibrate against the case, obviously that isn't the problem though =p

I would get the hard drive replaced under warranty. That sounds like something internally wrong...perhaps the platter is out of balance or something. Regardless, I would bet that it won't see a long life-span.

Sounds to me like a fan somewhere. Try checking mainly the CPU fan. I remember I had an old laptop that made that noise because the CPU heatsink fan was defective.

Sounds like the hard drive to me, i had the same problem with one of my older computers the sound is made by the magnetic disks inside as they spin, with the occasional clicking sound of the reader moving back and forth.
