While you do make a good point, because we as a species are just used to getting over it with the regular grieving process, Its more of a respect for the dead sort of thing.

I understand the point of we cant just keep it in and to ourselves though. It should be centered to more of a celebration of life rather than mourning of a death.

    Selfies at funerals...

If someone wants to take a photo of themselves at a funeral, I grant them full support. Do whatever with your life, if taking a selfie with your grandmothers lifeless body in a casket while you throw up the deuces is what gets you by, then by all means go right ahead.

This is the only thing that has irked me:

Most people don't like to think about the end, but they love beginnings. When you get off of the plane and are about to begin a two week holiday in a 5 star resort in Mexico, are you thinking about how depressing getting back on the plane and flying home is going to be? Absolutely not, you're thinking about how many buffets you can hit per day, and if the swimming pools are open 24/7. It's basically a celebration. Eventually when you're two or three days away from leaving, you begin to think about how you have to leave. Then finally, you leave the resort and it's sure as hell not as fun of a moment compared to when you arrived. Life is no different. Close to no one takes enjoyment from contemplating how they're going to die soon, so the idea of framing a photo of their relative two days before they died is an awful idea to the average person, due to it reminding them that could be them in x amount of years. Instead, they put up a photo of their newborn niece since it's a much happier concept: a baby coming into the world with their whole lives ahead of them. Not to mention, a photo of a baby is less morbid than 12x7 of Uncle Jim with a nearly ready to burst colostomy bag strapped to his side, just hours before he croaked.

I think you hit the spot with this one. I personally wouldn't take pictures & post them as I don't agree but as you said in one of your posts, I've been to quite a few funerals (sadly), some were filled with upset people (just to clarify I have no problems with) yet some as you said we had a laugh with the family remembering all the stupid things that happened (more so at the wake than the service), and imo that funeral was actually what I'd personally want.

The Irish mourned the best. Throw a big party, get drunk, sing, enjoy their life. Mourning is a process that is going to happen. I mean even animals mourn, it is just a natural reaction.

Now onto the point: I agree with lame and BGlave. Our culture has become so much about poor me and attentionwhores that it is sick. That is why I am not on facebook and only follow video game developers and my favorite streamers on twitter. I have become apathetic and cynical.

Everyone passes away, I don't find this disrespectful. They could have been really close and they could of had a fun personality.

To me, I think (hypocritically, I suppose) that external judgement of the people in these pictures is unfair. I see this as more of a case-by-case thing:

If the person who died would have gotten a kick out of a relative taking selfies at his/her funeral, then I don't see anything wrong with it. Honoring someone's life doesn't have to be completely somber and bland if that person was lively and happy - maybe you and your best friend took joke selfies constantly, then she died in a car crash the next day. Why not take one last selfie in her memory? I know I wouldn't want people just sitting around boo-hoo'ing at my funeral.

If the dead person would have considered a "funeral selfie" disrespectful, I feel that should be honored by relatives and loved ones. At least grant them that one last bit of respect, hm?
