    Question about GED

So, I am planning to take my GED. I'm not worried about failing a bit, I'm positive I'll pass, even when they revamp it. I'm just wondering the downsides of doing it. I'm pretty sure I'll be kicked out of my house once I tell my parents, but I'm not worried about that. The college I plan to go to doesn't care about whether you have a GED, and other then it will look bad, it means nothing to me.

    Question about GED

I'm confused... why would it matter to your parents? Isn't getting your GED a positive thing?

    Question about GED

It's seen as lower then a highschool education, which I guess it is. But, they don't see things like I do.

    Question about GED

A GED is perfectly fine if you're using it as a vessel to start going to college a bit early, that's personally the route that I've taken. If you've graduated college no one cares that you got a GED in highschool to start taking college classes early.

But..if you drop/fail out of college then you've screwed yourself. Because if an employer is looking at a GED vs a highschool diploma then a highschool diploma is a bit more attractive because it means you can stick with something.

But if you dont get your ged then isnt that a step below your current state? I just don't see how having a GED is a downgrade from where you currently are...

    Question about GED

He is probably referring to getting his GED IN PLACE of a highschool diploma, which is what his parents take issue with.

    Question about GED

If your parents take issue with the fact that you are doing a GED and starting college however many years early (I'm going to say 2 for the sake of an example) present them with this info:

If you start college 2 years early then you can push everything in life forward 2 years. This will mean that at the end of your career when you are at the top of the ladder (or so to speak) where you are earning the most you have ever earned in your life - you have 2 extra years of this income to look forward to.

That's a lot of extra money for your retirement, etc.

    Question about GED

My parents won't listen to anything I say. My dad literally thinks I'm stupid. He doesn't understand anything if it's not how he wants it. There's a high chance he won't let me take it, and that'll be problematic.

    Question about GED

To take the test you need to pay $60.
You need to wait a few months.
You don't get a highschool diploma.
If you apply for a job and it's between you and the person with the highschool diploma, they are most likely giving that person the job.

Just some downsides, I'd rather graduate with my friends and such.

    Question about GED

    Bolded my question.

Don't mind the money, I have few grand saved from working.
    Diploma means nothing to me.
I have a job currently and will be going into college.

And I was homeschooled all this year, so most of the people I knew I barely talk to. Just one group I hangout with now. (Lonely. :/)

Oh okay, then you might as well go for it. I imagine homeschooling must be a pain.

My bad. That's if you take remedial classes. Just for the test it's 1-3 days.

I don't plan for a remedial. I'm almost positive I'll pass with ease. Then again, I might just think I'm smart enough.

    Question about GED

Your parents should be supportive of you regardless, If your doing well in school point out the fact that this puts you ahead of the game. a GED is nothing to be ashamed of. I know somebody who took 9 years to complete a 4 year college course. It didnt affect his life after that. He's is still a graduated college student. :)

    Question about GED

In the end it's about what you want. If you consider getting a GED as settling for a lesser degree then what you're capable of, it's really up to you, it's your life and i'm sure most parents will accept that choice as long as you explain the reasons for getting a GED. You can still go to college, and even join the military under some circumstances. Good luck

    Question about GED

I would probably just finish highschool i mean if you're planning on starting college it might not be everything you're looking for. Unless you're certain you'd end up in community college anyway i would just finish up and maybe apply somewhere after highschool because (as far as i know) you can't apply anywhere with just a GED

Incorrect. With a GED I'll be just fine. Only benefit for me doing highschool is what my parents will think. That honestly doesn't matter to me.
