Yes, that is it, exactly. However, that post was brought up in 2012, and closed in July 2013 as an Approved Suggestion. Is it still being worked on? If not, perhaps we should "open-source" it to the community and see what we come up with. Although there are a lot of useful features on Mohtasa's version, it does not need to be complicated.

I don't support because skype is already a trusted program but if you make an on-site instant messenger which will be probably be coded by an admin they can put all sorts of codes which may not make our transactions secure. such as stealing the information etc.

 

Sythe has checked into all of the known chat programs, and they all have security flaws, so in essence - That WOULDN'T be perfect.

 

Sythe has already said many times that he likes the xmpp platform the best. I'm pretty sure Sythe stated on a previous suggestion like this or the spam forum that it was in the works.

I tried working on it once. The issue I ran into was testing it without it being on Sythe's servers. It was annoying, because I would have to do essentially a fully hosted chat system, test it, and then try to move it over and see if it still works.

 

I might be able to make a Sythe chat if Sythe can make an API which returns authentication state + sythe name.

 

This. The XMPP that I linked to was a phase of what Richard was working on, but he wanted to make it a la FB chat or those annoying chats you see on wikis and junk. Except, people would have a reason to use it (trades, maybe even chats... even dicing =p). I'm not sure, but I thought I saw a beta maybe it was a concept haha.

 

Okay well I'm really glad to see it's being worked on, this will definitely be a huge asset to the website.

 

Yeah I remember a thread in the SF about it where he posted a screenshot of him talking to n4n0, which is what I was referring to, not mohtasa's approved suggestion.

I support this, would be a great way to cut down on scams, trade time, and make the markets a lot more smooth.

It sounds like there is a fair amount of interest in this and it would be best to be transparent with the details so that the community knows what's up.

 

There's a new vulnerability on Skype atm, people are getting hacked by the handful today.

Why not use IRC instead? Like make a Sythe channel in irc. It's also user friendly and easy to access as you don't have to download any programs and can just use browser based irc clients like mibbit. I currently use IRC and I think it's great as you don't have to add anyone and it's easy to find more people online

 

Both sythe chats and irc eventually die off. Wouldn't implementing this put a huge strain on the server?

If Cometchat would be used, there would be a way to host this off-server.
This would mean slower chatting, but not too much strain on the servers.
