    Cold calling.

Anyone have to do it? If so how / why etc etc :D

I cold call selected companys to try and gain more business etc etc, It can be fun and also very annoying.

I always make a joke by saying, I wont bore you with my sales pitch for too long, but what I do is supply hose fasteners to many industries and hopefully we could supply you, would it be possible if I give you an email with some prices etc and go from there?

And then in the email I put, Prices are attached, I wont drown you with a wall of text explaining why you should switch supplier I will let the prices do the talking.

And normally that gets me some business haha

    Cold calling.

I do on occasion for work, I just pick up the phone and dial the number. If I think about it too much I psyche myself out haha.

Is that calling random companies and try to sell them stuff?

I always take phone calls for orders and also to order things myself, but when I have to speak to someone who I don't even know there name is a bit challenging and some of the people can be hard to deal with haha.

    Cold calling.

I did some cold calling for awhile. Two quick comments: First, it seems like a mistake to immediately de-escalate the contact to an email. Second, hopefully you are doing this already, but smile while you are on the phone. People can hear the difference and it helps.

    Cold calling.

I don't offer the email straight away, I firstly talk about there current supplier or the current brand they get supplied, and then I talk the brand I supply up, and then I mention about drop shipping.

Yea I always talk with a smile when doing this and I always mention there name multiple times as well

Mine are warmer leads since it's previous customers, or attempting to cross-sell current customers as opposed to picking up a phone book and randomly dialing.

In the beginning I was pretty bad at it too, but you definitely get thicker skin the more you do it. Honestly I don't even get phased anymore when someone chews me out because they left my company because their premium rose $400. I actually find it quite comical

What I do is more targeted than just getting a phone book, I research certain industries for example motorsport race teams, and I target them for a while then I switch to marine etc etc.

Someone said to me "I hope you get cancer in the future" all because he wouldn't be told that his crappy Chinese make of clip doesn't match the quality of the formed manufactures in italy / spain etc etc... That was a funny convo haha.

    Cold calling.

I don't have the patience when I get these calls, I immediately cut them off with a blunt, "lose my number" and hang up.

I don't know if this is completely accurate, but this is what they told us where I worked: you should use the words "do not call" so that they are legally required to enter you to their do-not-call list.

I work in a call center at the moment. It's fun to wind up angry individuals, otherwise it gets to you and that's the best way around it.

If you're polite to cold callers, generally they'll be nice to you back and may even remove you from their system. If I get someone being a total cunt, asking to be removed, my hand will always go to the callback 1 day button.

If you're in the UK also, and are sick of cold calls, try here: http://tpsonline.org.uk

    Cold calling.

I'd hate working in a call center. A friend of mine did this for a while and he hated it so much. He had memorized his script fully, he could probably still repeat it. I have to deal with strangers every day considering I work at a retail store but having to do the approaching rather than just answering a few questions would suck.
