Ex-Moderator Ranks

This may get shot down instantly, but it really needs to be said outside of the Sand Box.

The "Retired Sectional Mod" rank is unsightly. I guess there was a movement to make retired globals look like more of a big deal than retired sectionals, but come on.. If you're going to do that without warning, at least give ex-Sectionals a decent-looking rank that they'll actually want to display. Is that a flower in the middle of the Santa hats, or what? What does that even have to do with previously being a Sectional mod?

I propose restoring the old ex-moderator (current retired Global) rank to the retired Sectionals and simply having them labeled as "Retired Sectional Mod" instead of "Retired Global Mod."

I feel the difference in title is plenty to differentiate between the two types of retired moderator because Sectionals have put in their own time and effort and deserve to be respected just as much as Globals do. Neither set has powers after stepping down, so the only thing using a different rank does is inflate retired Globals' egos. That's just rude and disrespectful to retired Sectionals.

I agree, a re-labeled ex-mod rank would be a lot more attractive.

 

I agree with you on the look of the sectional rank. I asked the other staff what the "flower" meant and Roary said it was in reference to a recreational symbol. Matthew uploaded the full greyed out version of the Sectional rank to the server but it may take a while to reflect on the site.

I don't feel that the ranks demean any mod sectional or global. It is just meant to show what they achieved during their time here on Sythe. I believe the ranks were brought out to clarify what "Ex-Mod" meant. I get that question a lot and many people think that ex-mods were demoted when that is not the case.

I am still on the fence about the design of the ranks. Maybe it will take some time to get used to.

 

I personally preferred the original - to be honest. There was nothing wrong with it (not that it applies to me anyway).

 

I'd rather it say ex-sectional moderator instead of retired but I don't know how that would look or if it would fit properly above the rank. I don't really mind the rank's look though.

 

It just seems to me like the new rank is an unnecessary (and not very good looking) downgrade from the old one. The old one was consistent and classy. The new Sectional one just confuses me..

Edit: It's been changed to a...snowflake? It looks much better than the flower thing, but I still like the three santas substantially more.

 

I prefer the retired verse ex as it implies more of a voluntary leave.

 

If it was simply a clarification issue then "ex-mod" could simply be changed to say "retired mod" without any unnecessary cosmetic changes. If they have to be changed at least make them look good =p

 

Agreed, I like the wording change to sound more honorable for all of the retired staff members.

My actual suggestion is simply giving all retired mods the same rank with a different title above it, for the sake of consistency as well as aesthetics.

They were pulled from a suggestion that was made a while ago. I am sure that if someone wanted to design one that suited everyone, Matthew and the others may consider it.

I agree with the consistency of them though. They should be uniform with just a title change

 

Why does one need to even be designed? A simple title change is enough to clear up the confusion between "ex" and "retired" as well as separate past sectionals from past globals.

It should really be the rank that we have until someone designs something better, not the other way around.

 

I don't like the wording change. Retired isn't a good word. Former would be a much better word, or something else. Retired Section Mod just sounds stupid.

Former doesn't work, because it isn't any more clear than "ex" was. Retired is supposed to show that they resigned on good terms.

 

Retired just has implications that aren't really conducive, for lack of a better word. It isn't a good word. Why do you need to know that they left on good terms? Mods who left on bad terms shouldn't get a rank to begin with...

 

Yea I see what you're saying but mods who leave on bad terms normally don't get the ex-mod rank anyways, the only thing I could think of is being demoted for inactivity but even then it really isn't that bad as all it shows is you put in the effort to earn the rank but were demoted due to not having the time to maintain it. I don't think ex-mod has been given to people who were forced to step down due to leaking or similar actions.

I like the new ranks more. But I also wouldn't mind the previous rank with different names. Both are good.

 

I think it would be best if you keep the old rank, but only give them a different title.
Retired Global and Retired Sectional would be best.
If the ex-staff doesn't deserve it, he/she shouldn't have that rank in the first place.

I like the change. The only problem is the rank images. More time should've been thought into it.
