What do you miss about pre eoc runescape?

Seems to me, despite Jagex's claims of RS 3 being able to work on any computer easily, a lot of people I talked to cannot run the game, and they're not going to buy a new machine just to play Runescape. If it was old runescape maybe they would.

The game = dead content. EoC was just one of the many failures from Jagex. I personally thought the game started going down hill after the armor updates. Add in the cosmetic eyesores and microtransactions and you've got one ugly game. Runescape just looks ugly now, while it was never renowned for its graphics it was renowned for its simplicity.

EoC ties into this destroyed simplicity. While the fights are actually seemingly easier, there is a lot of effort that goes into combat now. Is that such a bad thing? Well that's up to preference and opinion and isn't really central to the argument.

All I know is, EoC or not, the game has an embarrassingly low player base right now. I never thought I'd play the game long enough to see the days where there are less than 100 people in a world. It's also appalling that when you think about it, probably 40 percent of the world if not more are still bots or underground games of chance players and antisocial players.

Jagex/ Runescape needs something to revitalize the CORE game, and to revitalize now completely dead content (literally everywhere I go is a ghost zone). Hell I'd almost prefer the bots back into the game to give the illusion that the game is still populated. Something needs to change, if not EoC, something. The new content coming in obviously isn't attracting enough attention.

 

The thing I have to say I miss most is the filled up worlds. Remember that login queue we used to have? Never need that anymore as the worlds are never full.

 

Miss those days so badly. The days playing minigames was actually possible.

 

I miss simply being able to fool around in various mini-games.


Duel arena, clan wars, castle wars, barbarian assault, etc were all notable for me. I don't find them nearly as fun after the evolution of combat.

Some of the best times that I've had include fooling around in the duel arena trying for max hits or tanking out a whole nooby clan in clan wars. (I'd get in verac's with overloads, turmoil, a unicorn, etc. and I'd be able to outtank a 15 person clan chat full of randoms)

 

Pvp worlds, and hybriding.

It's just so true, I just hate how must of those left are flaming the people who dislike RS & EOC. It's basicly the reason why RS is dead... but these people are so blind they can't see it and are stuck playing a dead game. I remember back in the day when there were over 300 players on EACH world... good times, and that was in 2006. By 2010 it was still similar, maybe because RS wasn't dead because of EOC yet!!!! but in 2012... there came EoC.. and armor updates and stupid unneeded updates and THAT is WHY this game is so dead today.

And also, no matter how many people flame us that are against EOC, it still won't change the fact that "RS3" will NEVER be as active as again, UNLESS... Jagex would offer something like 2010-2011 RS again. without EOC and all those confusing, nonsense updates, like, armor update, weapon update, font update(2009) general stores (2008 or 2009) and so many more simple but nice things that are gone.

 

Agreed. I also tried to play RS with an open mind with every update, but I just can't. I mean, I started playing late 05/early 06 and it's hard not to reflect on the past and think about how excited I was to play the game every day after school. Now when I get home from work, I see the little RS symbol on my desktop and think "meh". I still like to try to play occasionally, usually when I feel like playing no other games and I want to see what Jagex has done lately. I guess, in truth, I'm scared of moving on. Other than Pokemon, RuneScape was my childhood game and it's hard to leave stuff like that behind. Jagex just dug their own grave and are now trying to get out of it. It's quite hard to get out of a six foot hole, though, so I wish them luck.

To answer the thread's main question:
=The PvP - Yea, it was simplistic, but that's what made it RuneScape and not every other MMO
=Minigames - They're just not as active anymore
=The community - I miss going out skilling ad just having long conversations with so many different people. Sometimes I would go wcing with the intent to just afk through it, but would end up talking to and meeting new friends. Nowadays every one seems so anti-social.

So happy to know other people feel the same exact way. We're both to the point where we don't want to hate on Jagex, and have supported them through thick and thin...but realize that this is just too much. It's a sad state of affairs indeed my friend.

 

Exactly my friend! I am not in any way hating jagex, I sticked with Jagex all the way.. until EOC. Even tried to get to used to updates I didn't really like, still stuck with jagex longer. and true, I wish it hadn't happened this way. If they only had just updated the 2010 RS without "EOC" or armor/weapon updates. Just put some nice updates to other stuff or something new instead changing all the old things, and making people quit.

 

Antirushing... Dunging... Mage boxing... Rev Pking... Getting 3 consecutive drops at bandos... Holy shit I miss that game

pking, i loved the idea of "EP" and how 76k risking opponents could make you mils

 

non lever mb, no tb, no whips (depends), no godwars, duel arena from 06 and much more. Quit the game years ago, so can't compare it to EOC.

 

The main thing I miss is not having to use FC's and clannies to be able to get a BA team on w6, before you just used to walk in and get a team in seconds, not prepare for an hour to get a team that usually only does one queen run, it's shit if you want to fill your horn.
