Minirank Game

So the base for my idea came off of Moh's thread located here.

Everyone is talking about mini ranks and how they want them this and that. Currently mini ranks are given out by admins if they aren't obtainable by the automated system. What if we made a game where every so many threads posted on or viewed you have a chance of finding a mini rank. Obviously don't make the chances very high. Then you have to answer a question about Sythe.org and if you get it correct you get to keep the mini rank. This is just a very broad idea and I haven't cleaned it up and refined it yet but looking for suggestions and thoughts.

And the people who are currently trading miniranks? if this goes through I will lose $200+

 

It shouldn't be about the money. It's about giving people some incentive and making it a fair playing field for everyone.

Also it's not like they would just be popping out all the time it's a RARE chance.

 

People who currently have a lot of miniranks will see the worth of miniranks go down. sorry, no support from me.

Miniranks weren't designed to be a form of digital currency, rather a tool to help promote activity on the site...

 

If that's so you wouldn't be able to trade miniranks.

 

That logic is semi flawed. Just because you can trade something doesn't mean it's a form of digital currency it was original suppose to be oh you have mini rank A and I have mini rank B you like B I like A now we switch that's all.

It means they have value. Untradable miniranks do not.

 

Yeah value now but that's not what they were originally made for it the point and it's a more equally based way to distribute them.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing a minigame that rewards mini ranks for participation/winning said game.

It seems like a good idea on paper but even if it is a very very rare chance not a lot of people are affected by it but you're going to piss off a few traders. I think it's just causing more harm than good.

 

But that's the thing it wasn't made for people to make money it was made to increase activity.

 

this is a black market ingame sales website it's kind of assumed people are going to buy and sell whatever they can

 

Yeah I understand that but they are purely gaining off of the fortune of them being given mini ranks and now using it to buy and sell it's not like the gold market where everyone has an opportunity to join in. It's purely based off of who was fortunate in order to get some. IT would be more fair and positive to make it a fair market if that's what you'd prefer for it to be called.

 

it's kind of like rares in (old) rs. It was unfair that only people who played at the time had access to obtain them originally but it's also unfair to just give them out because you're screwing people who spent good money on them or people who had them for all that time. if everything were fair there wouldn't be a market for anything.

edit: and just to be clear i don't even do the whole minirank thing

 

But it shouldn't be a market they aren't rares they were made to boost activity and in my opinion should be treated like such. But I'll let some other people post to!

jagex made rares as something fun for the holidays not to be highly sought after commodities.

I like the idea a lot, and quite frankly, I really don't care if it'd make minirank traders mad.

Those traders have started to turn a profit on arbitrary things that are supposed to promote site activity and be a fun little goal to work toward, so I don't see a problem with that "market" (which shouldn't even exist, in my opinion) being devalued a bit. Consider it a risky investment.
