contemplating on getting an acoustic guitar.

Any advice on a brand and maybe a few decent learning books to get me started? Anyone else play and have any advice and good ways to self teach? My other experience with instruments was with the alto sax and clarinet but that was years ago
    Thanks:)

A regular [starter] acoustic Ibanez would probably work out for you. They usually come with an instruction booklet with a few starter songs for you to try.

I asked my husband about how he learned to play and he said he learned by listening to the beat and repeating it. Generally its just something you pick up over time and you will create your own play style.

    Something like this: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/usa/products/jumpstart/IJV50.html

Start off with the kit and when you get used to it, you could always upgrade from there. Their website had several kits that were ready to go. I just picked one for the link :p

Going ahead and buying a guitar is a good choice.

Really brand doesn't matter that much especially as a beginner. Youtube is a huge resource and if you're more of a visual learner such as myself it makes things a lot easier. As you learn tricks of the trade with pull offs and other riffs you'll find a style for yourself and go from there.

My dad is really into guitar. He has quite the collection now. I'd show you pictures if you really wanted. For starters you won't need a really expensive guitar. Until you get an ear for songs every guitar you play won't sound how you'd like it to. Starting to learn guitar requires some patience and getting the basics down before you move on is always important like most things in life. The nice thing about learning guitar now is that the resources at your disposal are crazy compared to back in the day. Books come with most beginners guitars and Youtube can essentially teach you guitar from scratch. Just stick with it and you'll eventually grow to love playing because you genuinely enjoy the sound you're making.
