What are the chances of bought accounts getting banned later?

So, I'm an ex-RS player who gave away his account a year or two ago (not sure exactly when, but shortly after the introduction of SoF and microtransactions - I got sick of Jagex policy). Still, I was considering returning for nostalgia's sake. I don't want to recover my old account since I did give it away and I do not intend to go back on that, and besides - my account was never that great, with my highest skill being 93 Agility and most of my others no higher than 80 anyway. So, I was thinking I'd consider buying a high-skill main so I do not have to bother with the chore parts of the game and can jump right into the fun parts.

Anyway, that was the rambling part that I always feel obligated to do. I was looking through the marketplace section and was pleased to see some accounts that were apparently going for an affordable price. I'm strongly considering snatching up one of them, but I'm worried about the possibility of being banned because of RWT. After all, I don't want to see my money go down the drain! I do not plan to bot or do pretty much anything illegal on RuneScape. With that in mind, can the more experienced denizens of the forum tell me how common it is for accounts to get banned after being bought? Thanks in advance!

 

An account being banned due to the selling of it is extremely rare, never has happened to me. BUT, I suggest not buying an account, as almost in every case, the account is recovered back.

 

Near to zero. In past 10 months of my middlemanning career none account got banned. There were situations where sellers recovered accounts, but I havent heard about any bans. However, I sold my account to well-known dicer/RWTer and it got locked several times. Maybe because of IP change, hard to say. He used his original IP used for rwt/dicing. It got locked several times then it's recovery email address has been changed by JaGeX to [email protected] I have emailed them and explained I moved to USA and they replied and gave me account back after 3 months which is now in buyer's hands. However it's bank got wiped and his mule too (30b+)

 

Hmm, is account recovery really such a widespread problem? I'm not naive, and I know that on sites like this I always run a risk of getting scammed even by allegedly trustworthy people. However, if I can find a seller who has numerous vouches, perhaps even for sales of much higher value than what I'm looking for, isn't that risk practically negligible?

That's correct. All accounts are ALWAYS recoverable.

Banned? Basically zero. The chance of it being recovered is almost 100% though.

It's basically about finding a balance between trusted seller & affordable. Accounts are very often recovered though..

pretty low odds theres a chance it can get locked tho but if you have all the info you need / last owner co-operates fully shouldnt be a problem
