Increase avatar size limit.

It's currently just 64kb, pretty damn small.
Wouldn't harm anything if we increased it.

I would suggest to make it a $5 donor+ only option, but really 64kb is so small anyone should be able to have maybe at least 150kb limit, but if you wish making it $5 donor+ would be fine with me too. Or just larger limits for donors, but also increase the base limit.

Sad, but I can image that it was defined before although I don't see why.
A few KB increase won't do any harm or take up any precious space... it's just a few kb, and it's not like every single user is going to max our their avatar filesize if this is done anyways.

 

Support. If it doesn't take up space and is another reason to donate, why not?

It's because of people on mobiles and slow internet, we don't want to be lagged by your massive avatars.

 

Mobile = mobile site
Slow internet = sounds like a you problem

Sorry to be so blunt, but not many of us have slow Internet any more, and those that do can change what they download from the website and limit image downloads.

 

A lot of people are still on slower connections. Sure the UK + US have higher speeds compared to years ago but other countries are still catching up. Plus I think Australia's Internet system works different to others, if you want to have Internet there you have to pay for X amount of Gs rather than a set payment at an unlimited download. Some .GIFs on this site take a while to load for me sometimes, and I'm on a pretty fast connection.

 

I'm pretty sure once you become a donator the 64kB restriction is disregarded, as long as your avatar size is reasonable and doesn't cause lag etc.

E.g., lame123 has a 159kB sized avatar.

So just post on the Avatar Request Thread whenever you want an avatar which has a size greater than 64kB?

 

Avatar request is there for a reason.
