So much facepalm in this thread, maybe because I'm mechanically inclined..cars are one of those things people will always claim to know everything about no matter who you are.

 

lmao what's your deal? I'm not surprised at the fact he was able to lower an AWD vehicle, I'm surprised that he wanted to lower an AWD suv since it does fuckall besides make it more likely to get stuck driving through snow/dirt/whatever (ngl it did make it look bad as fuck tho). get what I'm saying?

 

Four-wheel-drive means a drive system in which the engine's power is (or can be) transmitted to all four wheels through a two-speed transfer case and drive axles. The transfer case's main function is to provide a gear-reduction feature and the ability to shift the vehicle into 4WD Low range. 4WD Low range is designed for severe conditions such as pulling through heavy snow or mud, or slowly climbing up (or inching down) a backwoods hunting trail. For this reason, 4WD systems offer superior capability off-road and in really sticky situations where an AWD vehicle would very likely get stuck.

All-wheel drive also transmits engine power to all four wheels and will also give the vehicle a better grip on the road in inclement weather than a front-wheel-drive (or rear-wheel-drive only) vehicle. But an AWD-equipped vehicle lacks the two-speed transfer case that is the defining feature of a true 4WD system. This means there is no 4WD Low range for deep snow/mud and uneven terrain. And that means you should keep the vehicle on paved roads, no matter how much it may look like a burly SUV on the outside.

 

Not sure where along the line I offended you for you to come at me like this over such small bullshit, but whatever dude. Congratulations on copy/pasting information about AWD vs 4x4, it doesn't take a certified mechanic to figure out the difference, and after all I drive an AWD truck (read: not 4x4). Let me clarify again, like what you posted, AWD is mainly used for better in inclement weather (MAINLY SNOW) (or whatever, obviously some people just buy AWD because they can, or whatever). All I tried to say was, if he bought his AWD vehicle for better winter driving, lowering it would lose ground clearance, and his vehicle will have a more likely chance to get stuck in the snow, making it shitty for the entire reason he purchased it for. Simple, don't even reply because there is nothing more to be said here, unless you're posting a picture of your vehicle (and please do, Mr. Mechanically Inclined).

I lowered my car due to the fact that the body roll was horrible. And the fact that i am losing 2-3 inches means nothing. roads are paved and always plowed. the only way i would get stuck is if i go into hard packed snow and not know how to drive.
