[POLL] Are You a Republican or Democrat?

This is for a political science class I have.

My population is: Active members of the Sythe.org community

    If "other" please specify.

NOTE! Your political party affiliation does not have to relate to how you vote!

    OPTIONAL:
Post how you voted and why! IS there one particular issue you feel strongly of? IS there something about another party that you do not like! Elaborate as much as you feel the need to!

edit: poll is aimed toward US citizens and registered voters, but feel free to comment and vote if part of another nation.

I'm a registered Democrat because I believe everyone deserves a chance and that bigger government is better. Don't even get me started on Republicans...

I'm not familiar with guns, but that looks like a semi-automatic weapon. Why the fuck does anyone need a semi-automatic weapon and don't give me that bullshit 2nd Amendment excuse lol.

My family owns a large property of land. We are willing to defend it. It is a semi-automatic weapon with a 30 round magazine that is chambered in 5.56 NATO. I also have 5.56 NATO steel covered penetrating rounds in preloaded magazines.

As to why I have it, if someone breaks into my home and I call 911, how fast can the police get to my house? 5-6 minutes? maybe, the average response (including 911 operator), is 13 minutes or so (2010 statistic). If it's an active break in with people present, I would assume they would send officers at full speed lights and sirens.

In these 5-6 minutes, what can happen? First of all, they can come up the stairs and use whatever they have on them to harm myself, and my family. But even if they have some body armor on (freely available in NH for around $50), these rounds can go through it and hit vital organs to put them down.

5.56 NATO Light armor penetrators vs 1/4" steel plate

I don't want to derail your thread because the topic is your party affiliation, but if you look at the statistics, you would see that you have more of a chance fatally injuring yourself or another family member than actually stopping the burglar. There are other alternatives for preventing and dealing with burglaries such as installing an alarm system or getting a canine.

Phobia of dogs - but you are correct, dogs are a great deterrent.

Not derailing :D very good discussion.

Alarm systems are actually SLOWER at alerting the police than you are if you have the ability to dial 911.

this is because the alarm company tries to contact you, then they call 911, so the step of trying to get to you adds extra time.

In that time, I could already have my 10 digit gun safe open and put a mag into my bushmaster and put the gun into battery.

and after 1,000s of rounds at the range with the gun, I don't miss. I have done mock stress and SD situations and have never missed a 5" spread at 25 yards with the AR under extreme stress.

Depends on the burglary security company. Some officers who get assigned patrol the area and are allowed to carry and use gun if necessary. But even then, you don't see them with semi-automatic weapons.

You're right. You wouldn't miss. 80-100 rounds a minute, bullets spraying everywhere, you'd be lucky if one of your family members or neighbors don't don't get caught in the crossfire.

Closest neighbor is about 1/2 mile, with bullet drop and with the woods in the way, they would not get hit.

It is not an AUTOMATIC gun, i can fire accurately, probably 30 rounds/minute. But I would only shoot twice, double taps are essential with guns.

And security companies do not deploy security officers, they just call the police. Unless it is a security firm that operates in one neighborhood. The cost of covering every city would be almost equal to that of the budget of the police department.

Semi-automatic, automatic - tomatoe, tomato. It's pretty much the same thing. They're both weapons designed and used to inflict mass causalities and should only be in the hands of military personnel, not civilians. It makes no sense why someone would use a semi-auto to take down ONE person. Again, I'm not familiar with the types of guns, but I'm pretty sure a handgun or a shotgun would do the same thing.

hand guns are not effective at 50 ft in a high stress combat situation, most shotguns are not effective at 50 ft period.

A rifle is needed. A semi-auto is needed incase you miss

[POLL] Are You a Republican or Democrat?

I have very strange views on politics and i think it stems from the wide variety of history classes I have taken.
I selected Other, just because i believe that we haven't found this "ideal" government for myself yet.
I think we can do so much and we all search for the same thing but we keep finding differences which ultimately creates more political parties. (as obvious as that sounds)
Politics has become to be a lot about Religion and i very much dislike this (i'm not very religious) and i believe its a key factor in political differences.
So all of this aside, my political views: Other, a mixture of all. We have yet to have discovered the party i want to involve myself in.

Anarcho-syndaclist, or slightly more specific libertarian socialist.

    Edit:
If you need more than one shot, you don't need a gun.

Just thought the title would draw more people in who were going to say "neither but I am a XYZ"

I can totally respect this, I will have to make a new category in my data for you, but totally worth it!

    1 Shot/assailant is NEEDED.

2 Shots/assailant is ideal. 1 shot center mass, second shot placed center mass on their way down is a good way to make sure at least 1 round hits a vital organ/CNS.
