This. If they are actually decent quality then they should could just as well as other guides, as there are still people who'd use them.

 

There was once a "Request a Guide" thread, it seemed like a great idea in theory but never worked in reality

 

While I like the idea we have to face facts. Any committee of non-staff members that have ever been put has just floundered. Let us see: OGV x2, UE x2, and CDT. I am sure they're more I am forgetting. Normal members are flakes because the only benefits of these groups after getting the rank is that you're in the group.

If this does go through, and I haven't read the entire thread, I want the same restriction that was applied on the OGVs near the end of my tenure. You can't abuse your rank for market gain.

100% agree.

I think at the moment we're just trying to push the idea overall before we get to some details, but I do like your notion.

 

What's for market gain anyway?

 

Basically saying you can't advertise in your thread titles that you're a User Educator in order to promote trust. E.g. [User Educator], or anything similar. Makes sense, considering some newbies probably would see it as some sort of trust symbol.

That's a brilliant idea, I've seen people use [MOTM] [SVU] and even [OGV] and [CDT], so we need to crack down and not allow them. Out of those 4, the only one I can see being suitable is [SVU].

 

It's truly the only way to make the rank signify that you're just a member of the UE. It only makes it slightly harder to abuse it, but any little bit helps to avoid rank whores.

I also don't think Runescape guides should be used in applications. I mean isn't Sythe trying to get away from Runescape as it's base anyway? I don't have anything against Runescape, but most guide have been written 100 times over for anything that matters in RS.

Or possibly there could be a point system for the application process. SuF PM me and I'll send you my Skype. I'd like to discuss a couple of ideas that I think may help you out.

 

Just PM me. I want to extend the UE to as many guides as possible. As long as they are good I don't really mind.

What happens if two or more users create guides for the same thing?

Why should there be a team to make guides? This whole thing seems forced and amateurish.

Because it encourages activity and brings in hits and it gives people something to strive for and do and read the OP

 

Where I'm getting at is, when I need help for something specific, I'm most likely going to use google or sites I'm already aware of that can give me the answers I'm looking for. These guides will most likely be referenced from other materials with more substantial information.

This can cause unnecessary chaos of plagiarism and framing.

What exactly are you striving for? More activity? Besides questioning the guide itself, how would it bring the community together?

The only replies I can see coming from guides are

- Criticism
- Framing
- Questions people may have

If the guide center gave no post count, I'm sure this whole thing wouldn't even be a thought.

Ranks as well. Why are ranks needed for a self made team? Legitimacy? The ranks wouldn't give you market gain, so what's the point?

I'm looking at this as at a cognitive point of view. I can already see this being wasteful.

I guess the idea is cool, but if it fails once, then twice, it most likely will fall for the third time.

 

The main idea is that it brings in viewers to the site, which is what we need. If people join the community for the guides then they're the next generation of sythe.

So this thread is to make it official.

If everyone was so keen on gaining new members, they would've already began doing this long ago. Screw the officiating, just grab a team and start it. Over time suggest that the members get a rank for their hard work and dedication.

Like they are saying, ranks is the reason for doing this. Seems more personal.

 

Writing guides improves the sites Google Page rank and some will show up when people search for something similar.

Plagiarism is easy to handle. I don't know what "framing" is.

Market gain? The fuck is that? The ranks are so people have incentive to stay active and so they want to be on the team.

The first time wasn't the same at all. The second time it was gutted by the admins and left to die by the admins and it stagnated.

That won't work. People don't just do shit for the fun of it. There needs to be incentive or people, even if good intentioned, get bored and lose motivation.

 

Most people take ranks as a sign of trust.

We will just continue to go back and forth. I'll ask you this though.

What's stopping you from doing this and making an unofficial team?
