Do The Rich Pay Their Fair Share?

A flat percentage income tax would probably be the fairest way of taxation. What do you guys think?

 

Tax should be the same for everyone IMO.
It's stupid that rich people can get taxed 40%+ on their wages.
People are basically being punished for putting hard in work in and getting an education so they can earn a lot of money.

A little off topic, but I had to ask: What exactly makes someone more or less "fortunate"? Why is it that someone with wealth is "Fortunate", or "lucky" by definition? Why is it that someone who doesn't have wealth is "less fortunate", or "unlucky"?

 

The funny thing about this is that the more money you make the less you depend on government services/infrastructure yet the more you make the more taxes you pay. I don't necessarily have a problem with that just saying ya know.

People ALWAYS find some external entity to blame for their plight like "the man" "the government" "white people" " rich people"... Some of this may be true but at the end of the day your situation in life is dependent on you and your choices.

Making the rich poorer is not going to make poor people richer. Simple as that. Tax rates in general are too high though.. 15% -20% flat tax would be ideal with no deductions. Corporate tax rates should be 0% because at the end of the day business simply involves transactions between individuals (employees, owners/shareholders and consumers) so at the end of the day these people end up unknowingly paying the tax anyway.

To answer your question though: They pay much more than their "fair" share.. lol everytime people say fair share they simply mean more... pretty much no1 saying rich people don't pay their fair share can give a real number it's all about appealing to people's emotions.

Oh, and about the welfare point. Every time there's a problem in the world people look to governments to solve it. However, people usually don't take into account the possible problems created by governments' intervention. It's cool if you want to help people who fall on hard times but how many bureaucrats' pockets get filled before the money reached the poor. What about the obvious problem of a welfare trap ?

Let's say I'm a low skill worker. I essentially have two options: 1. earn $1000 a month on welfare 2. earn $1500 doing some menial job

So you can get $1000 to sit on your ass or you can spend 230+ hours to earn an extra $500. Very few people would choose the latter... just sayin'

 

I honestly don't believe that the rich pay their fair share, because their checks are bigger the government gives them a lower percentage on taxes, tbh it's bullshit.. All taxes should be equal.

 

lol this is like the most contradictory thing I've ever read. The top 10% of earners pay 70% of the total tax paid. How much would be fair ? Please enlighten me.

btw the us has a progress income tax. which means the more income you earn the higher the marginal rate.

 

They get lower percentages on their tax rates, but they pay more... Because their checks are bigger idiot.

If you wanted it to be equal, than shouldn't everyone pay an equal amount? That means if I earn $20k a year or $20 million, it should be an equal tax of $5,000 for each of these people.

 

That's not equal...
Tax is based on percentage, not a fixed rate.
Fair would be 10% for 20k a year and %10 for 20M a year.

But like I said and proved. People who earn more, pay more.

 

Yeah richer people pay less percentages though, But more in taxes because they get more money.

 

No, the more income you make the higher the percentage, meaning someone rich pays 39.6% in taxes compared to someone who makes $50,000 a year, which pays 25% in taxes. In the US that is.

Do you even pay taxes?

People who earn minimum wage pay 20% tax.
People who earn 32k + pay 40% tax.
People who earn 150k + pay 50% tax.

 

I don't live in the .U.S anymore. That's what it used to be, and yes I'm a taxpayer... I have a fulltime job and they rape my check.

 

$5000=$5000, how is that not equal? Refer to my first example, four people pay for an 8 slice pizza that costs $8, each each 2 slices and pay $2, why should the person who makes more pay more for his 2 slices?

 

I think I should shut up before I'm told right anymore haha.
