Looks good, but whats good does a mechanical keyboard do? The only good thing I could think about was the disabling of the windows button when gaming, thats about it How much did you spend on this?

You should Google it up, but basically all keyboards now are cheaply made and have rubber domes underneath then. Mechanical keyboards have amazing build quality and use actual mechanical switches underneath each key. These feel a lot better to use, produce a pleasant sound when pressed, and last up to 50 million clicks, whereas regular keyboard are built cheaply and don't last nearly as long. Also the key caps themselves are usually dyed or laser engraved and made from string plastics so they also last extremely long and don't wear very fast.
This one cost me around $145 USD.

 

The brown switches don't give that clicky sound do they?

 

Meh.. They don't appeal to me.
They don't particularly look amazing for the price and for the amount of time it lasts I would probably have bought an entirely new computer by then and the default keyboard does fine.

 

They still make a a sound just not sure if you would classify it as 'clicky'.

I think blues are a bit too loud and don't like the feel of them as much as brows. Browns are a nice middle-ground.

Yeah they aren't for everyone really, it's just personal preference and sort of just an extra luxury/comfort to have. However, most people who try out/switch to them have a difficult time going back and enjoy the experiance. I do agree regular keyboards work and feel just fine and get their job done, but mechanical just work and feel better! To each their own!

I've been tempted to try one out for awhile, but I've grown so used to the Lycosa that my WPM would plummet from it. I grew used to the low profile keys while I was using a laptop, so I opted for the lycosa when I picked up my keyboard so as to keep the low profile feel. Swapping to a standard keyboard would only hurt me now I feel.

I know a few people in the same boat as you, all of them having tried mechs but only half opting to stay with them the others couldn't adjust to the change.
IMO you should try it, there's a few cheap mechs for like $50? or something here in AUS so im sure theres a few where you live too

 

Its a pretty nice review, thanks for the upload. I've really been meaning to order some key samples so I can pick out a nicer keyboard eventually. From watching youtube videos I'm thinking that I'll probably want to go with browns since I need a middle ground but I'll wait and see how I feel about the samples.

edit: had a chance to try them out, seems that I prefer either brown/clear switches and I'll probably choose browns. I'd be willing to resell someone the kit at a reasonable price if they want to test out the different mx switches for themselves

Why not just buy a keyboard from the late 90's? I have a keyboard that looks exactly like that and it came with my parent's first gateway back in the late 90's. Clicky, mechanical, and all. haha.

Good review none-the-less.

Edit: Subbed, I expect content every 3 hours like Arumba does.

 

Because PS/2 connectors are almost obsolete. Most of today's computers don't even support PS/2.
