    Windows 7

Simple topic here. My desktop went through an update from windows, the thing is I had hit postpone on the popup to let my virus scan finish, and it restarted on the spot. Upon restart I got the infamous Black screen of death, a black screen with the cursor but nothing to actually do. I can't system restore, the copy of windows 7 was from my job, one of those cd's you apply to numerous computers, and I was constantly told by my computer that the OS was "Illegit" suggesting I buy a real copy. That could be the issue here, either my comp fucked up and applied updates wrong, or the updates are incompatible with the crap version of Windows 7 I picked up. Any thoughts?

I'm currently looking to buy a copy of Windows 7 from stores somewhere to do the restart, as I can't restart from the commands in the bootup phase. Anywhere specific I should be looking for a copy?

Assuming that you aren't able to fix your issue you could always pick up an oem copy at newegg for $99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986

If you're looking for a "cheaper" option you could always download an untouched windows 7 iso and use it as a "trial" until you find the key.

Wouldn't work seeing as how I can't get on my computer at all :p

I've been finding legit copies of Windows 7, which I need at some point, in the range of 50-80$

There's your answer then. Only other thing that I can think of is if you're a student/get someone with a .edu email to get a discounted copy. (This is a definite grey area obviously)

Trying to get my sis to buy it for me, she might get a student discount on it. I tried booting it up again today, recognized my hard drive and booted up like normal all the way up to the black screen of death. Should be an easy fix.
