Weed for the first time?

I'm sixteen years old. About half a dozen of my VERY close friends have been doing it for about a year now and I've never taken part. Lately I've been feeling more and more interested in trying it, especially after my dad told me he used to smoke in university (we're very close).

I know you'd never die doing weed, I'm not stupid, but is it really a gateway drug? My life is going pretty good right now, and I don't really want to fuck anything up.

Opinions? Advice?

You likely won't get high when you first try it. So try it twice is my advice.

 

You'll probably get a lot of stoners in here supporting it, but I'll open with two major reasons you shouldn't smoke weed.

1. It's illegal. Duh. If you, by some random act of God, get caught, your life can go down the tubes all because you got curious about how it feels to be high.

2. Weed isn't regulated, so it really can be quite unhealthy if you get some bad bud. That's also a risk not worth taking.

Why smoke weed when everything is how you wanted it to be because you never know if you end up smoking it you get addicted you'd want to do it every minute. Then you will be interested in trying other drugs because you are interested in them and want to see the other affects of drugs. Then lastly all you know that your using the worst drug possible out there you ruined your good life into just smoking weed which made you go on to more serious drugs out there. ( But really I know people that smoke it and just don't like get fucked up and into bad situations but if your that person that can smoke it and can handle it and everything is good just like something you are interested in doing blah blah its your choice ) ( You can try or smoke it but make sure its like something you not often or just if your chilling etc etc. )

I say if you don't have an unhealthy urge to try it, don't. I'm around your age, I'll go party with friends and drink, but I won't smoke weed. My friends know that and they respect it. I just like to keep a decent control of myself, and I know I have addictive traits (not a huge fan of alcohol so I don't get hooked to it). I also play plenty of high-school sports, so I don't want to fuck my lungs up before the season starts.

Don't think your life is going down the drain if you try one fucking hit, but don't give in to doing things just because other people do it.

 

I used to smoke when I was 16 and 17. It was fun I liked it. But I would suggest not. It's not worth it. Why risk the life you are happy with for the opportunity to experiment with weed. Yes it is a gateway drug. people start with pot and want a stronger high and move towards meth, heroine, and cocaine.

Stay away no matter how tempting it looks.

Just go for it. Have some self control and you'll be fine really. You may not even like it but there's only one way to find that out. You obviously really want to try it or else you wouldn't be posting this thread. I've smoked weed for a while now and i'm doing fine, it's not like 'oh noooo it ruined my life i'm a pothead now my life has ended!'. If anything it helps me relax and enjoy every now and then.

You seem to have your priorities straightened out, simply don't become one of those 'cool kids' that change their priorities in order to smoke weed.

 

Excellent points. Also, you can change personally after smoking. Trust me, I've had a few close friends of mine start using and they change for the worse. I'd consider the pros and the cons before doing another hit.

I would only ever really be using it in a social setting, I couldn't and don`t want to be smoking on a daily or even weekly basis.

 

I do not find weed fun or anything. I get nothing out of it like I do not get the feeling of being high maybe its just me but its boring I guess.

2 I think honestly you wont have to worry about #1 for the firsr few times, as weed would already be new to you and you would. already be excited/nervous to try that

Also you should do some actual internet research on the penaltys ofgetting caught, I know some places its/was a feliny offence, on the other hand where im from its legal so just google.

 

Yep that's exactly what I mean. As long as you have your priorities straightened out and have some god damn self control you should really be fine. I know plenty of people that get over excited by it and just stop attending classes, etc, just to be smoking weed. I wouldn't really care at all if you smoke every single day, as long as you don't let it start controlling you in that way.

He wouldn't get caught with copious amounts of marijuana, so really the charge is only going to be magistrate worthy; a fine, at the worst a anti-drug course.

The worst that'll happen, is that the plant has been sprayed, and you smoke it, leaving you with a weed headache. There is really no such thing as a bad bud, unless it has been laced with heroin, methamphetamine's etc etc, but that wouldn't happen, as the dealer is trying to make money not lose money.

Most stoners are the most creative people I know. The stereotype of a weed smoker whom just sits there and does nothing and plays with themselves all day, is a blatant lie; to an extent. When I get high, I want to get up and do stuff, I want to go explore and do fun things. Some very successful people are avid smokers.. Joe rogan, Ronald Reagan, Oprah Winfrey used to smoke marijuana, Wiz khalifa, A$AP rocky, A$AP ferg, Juicy J, Project Pat, whoopi goldberg, Justin Timberlake HELL even Barack Obama has openly admitted to smoking marijuana, before. So, tell me now, that smoking marijuana can make your life go down the wrong path? That is a load and a half. My father smoked marijuana for 18 years, avidly, and he was at one stage, a very successful man, a multi millionaire.

Weed is not a gateway drug. The only reason people say that, is because most addicts whom tell their story, all started using marijuana first and there's a strong correlation between marijuana and other drugs. According to the NIDA (National Institute of Drug Abuse) someone who smokes marijuana is 104x more likely to try other drugs such as cocaine or heroin; the problem here is correlation isn't cause. A Bikie member is probably 104x more likely to have ridden a bicycle as a child in comparison to those who don't become bikies, but that's not to say riding a 2 wheeler is a "gate way" to joining a bikie gang? It's just some people ride bikes, and those who don't are highly unlikely to join a motorcycle gang.

At the end of the day, if you want to try marijuana, go for your life. It agrees with some people and to others; it doesn't. It can worsen a case of schizophrenia, paranoia, and anxiety, but it cannot cause these things.

I'm really against the idea of sitting back and letting life pass you by. I don't want to be one of those people that spent 20 years in school, that worked a 9-5 job till they died.

I'd rather experiment, and have fun with my friends along the way. I'm certain I have enough self control when it comes to this.

 

Just use your discretion and you will be fine. Set a limit and enjoy your time while you are young!

 

Hate to somewhat gravedig, but I'm going to a party this weekend and I'm still undecided :/
