Figured I'd give one of these a go.

A few things about myself:

I'm 20 years old, and I live in Canada. I'm a volunteer firefighter in my community, and have been since I was 18. I enjoy the outdoors, be it fishing, hunting, hiking, etc (inb4 redneck). I'm an avid gamer, and I usually find myself playing FPS games such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Arma (DayZ).

Feel free to ask questions, I'll post a picture or 10 in the upcoming future.

Do you plan on taking it up as a career or is it something you're just doing for the time being?

 

Its something I'd love to take up as a career, but unfortunately there is only one paid fire department in my province, and its nowhere near where I live. I do plan on being in the department for the rest of my life though, unless work or family takes me elsewhere (in which case I'll apply to my new local fire department).

 

That's awesome man! If I wasn't going to school I'd love to try volunteering at a department (there's actually one 2 blocks down from my condo). How many calls do you guys generally receive?

Move to America, lol. We have lots of full time departments, actually, our department is hiring 90 people for the next year. You should apply! It's only a few hours away to Canada.

 

In 2012 we had 36 actual calls for service, and a load of "false alarms".

Moving to the US isn't exactly in the plans for this year, plus I doubt any of my training would carry over even if I did, and I also doubt that they would hire somebody who is not a citizen.
