Why do people think US is democracy?

WE are a constitutional republic and the founding father never talked about democracy in the declaration of independence or the bill of rights!

edit: The founding fathers actually hated the tough of democracy and tough it was the worst

 

Yes but you see your own government doesn't follow the very constitution it's sworn to. Democracy or not, the US are politically corrupt. It's not that people think you're a democracy, they think the system doesn't work as it should, and they are right. Not that I'm anti-american, don't get me wrong, a lot of countries are the same, the US just happens to be influential so the consequences are more dire (mass surveillance, ...).

 

Its a representative democracy.
The people elect officials they hope will carry out their wishes.

Nowhere has democracy in its purest form. The closest is probably switzerland with their ridiculous amount of referendums.

The founding fathers were fearful of tyranny of an elite few as their experiences of european kings and could therefore not place all of the states power in the hands of just the executive. Therefore they had to go for some form of democracy but they were also fearful of tyranny of the majority. This was because they felt many were too uneducated to be able to decide purely for themselves. Therefore pure democracy was not an option either.

The eventual system of two elected houses of equal power making up the legislature, an elected president for the executive and a judiciary appointed by the elected executive and confirmed by the elected legislature makes it hard to argue that the system is not democratic. Unless you believe in conspiracy of course.

 

People rarely refer to the term "Democracy" by its actual dictionary meaning. It doesn't mean that the US is any better or worse off by calling it a Republic or a Democracy or Representative whatever.

 

A Republic is Democratic in many aspects but it is not a Democracy. We elect our leaders democratically but they do not have infinite power while they are limited by our constitution.


In a pure Democracy gang rape is legal as only 1 person is not giving consent vs all the men raping.

I don't think any president is for 'pure democracy' as this would entail altering the entire electoral system used to elect them.

 

Obama, Bush, Clinton and most modern presidents would be more towards a dictatorship where they have infinite power and believe they can run the country best.


Obama is the most left wing candidate of the last 4 Clinton was most right wing of the last 4.

The founding fathers are a myth. They were just a bunch of freemasons along with a few others that took it upon themselves to set up a government. Nobody elected them. They weren't the best at anything. They were just a bunch of drinking buddies from a fraternal group that had connections throughout the major territories.

Because the public wouldn't have liked that. You wouldn't want to be called or be ruled by someone called the Führer, would you?

Because that's what they're used to.. Of course he wouldn't want to be associated with their previous ruler, and if he was called a king he would be. This is stupid. I'm done with this thread.
