MMR Question

Can anyone explain to me what MMR is? I was playing earlier and I heard a couple of people talking about raising their MMR in ranked? How does that work?

MMR is your Match Making Ratio. To raise it, you have to win more games. Basically League uses your MMR to match you with other players.

 

As Instruments said, it's used to determine what level of players you get matched up with. It's supposed to be invisible, but you can see a rough approximation of it here: http://quickfind.kassad.in/ if you look yourself up while ingame.

And does the LP you get in ranked games vary depending on your MMR, or is there no relationship between the two?

 

The higher the MMR, the more LP you get. Having a higher MMR than you current division is good.

 

MMR is your Match Making Ratio

It basically is a number that is generated based on your win:loss ratio, and the amount of time that it takes to complete a game on average.

This number is hidden, but it's fairly clear that if you're for example, Silver 2 and are being matched with people at the Gold 4 level that you have a higher MMR for your ranking. This will benefit you as you will gain more points when winning games.

You gain MMR when well, obviously winning games. The more won, and the faster the game is won, the better it is going to be.

 

This site: op.gg also tells you your MMR, if you've played 10 ranked games within 4 days.

Your MMR goes up and down dependant on your win/loss ratio. More you win, higher your MMR will be, also giving you the chance of skipping divisions.

op.gg is a quite inaccurate MMR calculator as it literally only draws from the win-loss ratio from your last ten games. I much prefer quickfind.kassad.in, although true MMR value will continue to remain hidden despite all of these calculators

Ohh, that makes sense now! I finally understand why I get a lot of LP in one game, then only gain a few in another. Thank you guys!

If you a lot of LP a game, that means your MMR is high.
