Do you need to be a natural artist to do well in gfx design?

I only ask because it seems the people who produce decent work, have a natural ability for art. I would love to be able to be as creative as some of the folk of the work I've seen in my time. But unfortunately I just cannot see/picture the image before I create it..? If that makes sense.

Lmao, Hey me too! Thanks for your input, I just always find myself struggling to picture something before I start it. Generally the end result is terrible.

 

Sometimes it can help to not picture whatever it is you're trying to do - Just freedraw, and see where you end up. Only think of a basic outline, and experiment from there

 

Really does not take natural talent, with enough dedication and time you can learn to do anything. I get what your saying about not getting ideas right off the bat but im sure if you put your mind to learning it will come more and more natural.

 

It definitely helps if you are naturally creative and gifted at drawing/photoshop etc but anything can be learnt. Here's a quote that this situation reminded me of:

I've generally found in anything I try to learn, if it's solely based on knowledge then I'm perfectly suited for it. Such as programming or anything that involves a certain pattern to make things work. But as for out right creativity I seem to struggle tremendously.

I think the plan of action for me is to just keep trying, probably following tutorials until I've picked up enough knowledge to be able to create something within my limits.

 

Yes it does take some natural tallent i guess for being creative but im sure after you do alot of graphics they will come more and more natural.

 

i think it does not! i believe that if you want to be great at something you will be you just got to try hard enough and have a lot of dedication an determination. if you have them thing you will make a grate designer. just be creative, you can know the programs in an out but if you dont have good ideals and techniques you have nothing. so just try to be creative an you got it.

i know people that got accepted to my school (witch is one of the top design schools in the us) and there are some that have no clue how to draw an only know photoshop, some only know web design, and some thru traditional drawling skills, i met a kid today that have never opened any adobe program an he is in a top design school.

so thank about it and if you really want to be a designer do it!! i love it an have a passion for it so thats why i have decided to do it for a living an for the rest of my life.

Sure it helps and all that, but you don't HAVE to be naturally talented to be a good graphics artist.

 

No one is naturally talented at digital art. Every Artist Was At First An Amateur. According to moonglare.

You'll develop a style as you lean how to use the programs. I find that I need to feel out a piece rather than know how its going to look before hand. I usually have visions for the end result but it never turns out exactly how I envision it. In a good way though - it gives me the oppertunity to try new styles and methods - constantly adding to my repertoire.

It just takes time.

Of course, being able to draw off of a computer will be a huge asset.
