Yea it's impossible to quit, honestly getting involved in other video games helped me play less, then eventually stop spending time gaming.

The closest I've came to quitting is after the EOC came out - I just played the occasional private server. Came back after 07 though. But no, I haven't made an actual attempt to quit :p

I read an interesting comment about the addictive qualities of Runescape a few years ago, I can't find it now though. It said something about achievements in RS taking priority over your irl goals because they're relatively easy to obtain, they stay with you, and you have an audience to show off to.

Anyway you should check this out, there's quite a few good points made in here even though it's just video games in general

I'm the same, I'm the last one of all my friends to still at runescape and I've been playing since I was like 14 & I'm now 20, I love the game and I don't regret any of it, all though I'm a very shy person like your self but I'll still go talk to people and try make conversation with people but only if I can be bothered, hehe.

This exactly, you're not wasting time dude, but instead you just have to prioritize things in life such as hanging with friends, going to play sports... all of that great stuff is where the memories will come from. Have you ever seen the movie 'Yes Man'? Live his lifestyle and when your friends ask you to hang don't say no because you would rather be watching pixels all day... GO!

But hey, when you've just got back, you're tired, bored... You feel all of this at once, get on Scape and grind that shit out. That's how you're supposed to play RS man, just change up your priority's and you'll be all good dude, chin up!;)

I think that you can get your self banned or request a ban if you want to quit but you cant...

What you need to do is find something you find equally as fun or exciting in the real world to replace your Runescape time. That's pretty much the only way I've ever got over my bad habits- replace them with a good habit.

    Try a new hobby. Brainstorm.

    Airsoft, maybe?
    Football?
    Ganj?

    etc

Stopped playing runescape 1 year ago for 6 months, sold some coke an made over 21k in 6 months, lost it all in the casino in 2 weeks, went back to runescape and have hardly spent a penny in 2 months!

Thanks everyone for your replies! I've read each and every one.

Yesterday I went for a 4-hour long hike with a few of my friends, had a great time. I can actually say that I wasn't thinking about rs for once. I was just... enjoying nature.

That's so funny that you mention yes man, I use his lifestyle when friends ask me to go out all the time.

For those of you who are also trying to quit: I've been playing alot less within the last week... and I can really say that the advice that everyone is giving helps wonderfully. Just getting outside, finding new hobbies and getting away from the game helps you focus on your real-life goals. To put it straight, the more you do something other then runescape, the more your able to put it aside. You don't even need to quit! I really like this:

Thanks for sharing this! Personally, I've really taken to exercising and eating healthy.

I wouldn't doubt for a second that Runescape's addictiveness comes from achievements within the game... Just the way the leveling system works; experience, gaining profit and showing off makes you want to focus all your attention on achieving your in-game goals.

Another aspect that makes the game so addicting is the time it takes to get 99s... Completing the game takes an endless amount of time let alone achieving a few 99s by hand. Most games today are made to be completed in alot less time. Naturally, you want to finish the game right? I mean.. who wants to half-finish something, especially if you dedicated (when you want to be).

Those are the two main addictive qualities of Runescape I can think of... Anyone else care to share your opinion?

Hey man, I used to be in your situation. The addiction to this game is worse than drugs. I threw my life away, missed out on important times in my life to grow socially and now i am making up for it. I had extreme social anxiety, I could barely talk to a random person in the store let alone a girl, without freaking out inside and turning red (had over 300 days of playtime on my account). Luckily i quit a few years ago, and now I am 19 and in college and having the time of my life, a social butterfly. It's never too late to quit or at least take breaks.

Just think to your self what you missed for playing a stupid virtual game and all the things you can do outside the game. My suggestion is to find some new hobby or a girl to keep your mind off the game. I started working out hard, it kept me busy and when i started seeing results my confidence went up from there and since then it's all been uphill.

Identical to me! Man.. like exactly. I have trouble talking to any random stranger - guy or girl. Girls on the other hand.. I have a big problem talking to girls. My face gets red and I can't keep a conversation going.Fuck its so frustrating because I want to talk to them and get to know you but I just don't know what to say.

I'm doing exactly what you have; working out everyday. I've started seeing results and I love it- just can't get enough of the gym. Let's say I skip out for one day.. I feel like shit that day. My body just needs the exercise. I've had a friends-with-benefits but never a girl.. and I'd really like to experience things with someone else.. besides my friends if you know what I mean haha.

Right now I've just been botting and playing about 1-2hrs each night at the end of the night before bed. Would you say this is a pretty safe amount of playtime?

Do you remember when you first really started talking to girls? What did you talk about!? and how did you keep the conversation going haha.. just any tips in general will really help me.

    Thanks :)

Funnily enough, I've pretty much just quit.

I sold all my cash earlier today and am in the process of selling my account.

This topic sparked my quitting ideas again, so thanks.

I've never had any regrets for rs. Never put any IRL cash into it, only withdrawn from it.

Your most welcome ^^ Goodluck on selling your account. I'll probably do the same within the next month .. The game is dying anyway.
