What should I do with this account?

  1. Stay 20 defence with high melee.

    30.0%
  2. Quest to 45 defence with high melee.

    20.0%
  3. Become a range tank with high defence.

    30.0%
  4. Something else entirely (please post what).

    20.0%

    What now?

So, I currently have a fairly low level 20-def pure. And I'm struggling to decide what direction to take it in.

    This is the current stats, taken minutes ago;

I have a reasonable net worth on the account (150-200m bank value, not 100% sure exactly), and 118 quest points including adamant gloves, MM, DT, crystal bow, etc, etc. My current goal is 99 herblore, and along the way I'm mixing in a bit of alching to get the magic up too..

What I'm struggling to decide is what route to take with the combat stats. The three options I'm weighing up are these:
    1) Stay 20 defence, high strength/range/mage and either 50, 60 or 70 attack (likely 70 to go to 75 with the release of GWD).
    2) Continue questing to 45 defence and barrows gloves, with high strength/range/mage and either 60 or 70 attack (likely 70, again to go 75 with GWD release).
    3) Change direction completely and become a range tank, 75 attack/strength, high defence/range/mage.

I have always liked 20 defence accounts, moreso than 1 defence and 45+ defence.. but I am very tempted to take the MM experience reward so as to chin/burst in the tunnels for range/mage exp. This would mean going either 45 defence or range tank.

There is also the inevitable release of GWD in the not too distant future, which although I have not voted for I can see the advantages of it. With that in mind, being a range tank would be a good source of cash and put me in a good position to team in GWD.

So... I'm totally indecisive, and I'm coming here to ask advice. What should I do? :)

    60 attack 20 def.
No point getting 70 as once you get whip you can't use without further leveling attack/def.

    Ok, so here's my opinion.

Stay 20 def, for now, as a high goal, I would aim for 60 attack and 95+ str, once this is complete, I'd go for 70 attack. After doing so, presuming your defence levels are quested, I would proceed forward and aim for zerker.

OTHERWISE; have you ever thought about becoming a range tank?

Yeah, range tank is currently the option I am most highly considering. I have always preferred range and mage briding to straight up melee fights, and range tanks are suitable for PvP and PvM, so I am seriously leaning in that direction. The only downside is more questing (only 118qp so another 60 to barrows gloves).

The reason I'm considering it now is because my range/mage are reasonably high and my melee stats are low, so this is the perfect time to make that decision.

That's exactly right, I myself don't really favour range tanks, but that might be purely because I've never actually had one myself. The timing is perfect for yourself, as you said you have low melee and high range/mage. Ehh barrows gloves are always a stress, they take forever but the bonuses you get are just to good to go by.

I'm gonna say to you, range tank, purely for the fact that I would love to see what you come up with in the future!

What level defence were you thinking of getting? It's gonna be hard to train that up without melee stats!

I would probably still get melee stats, so as to train defence. I'd likely get attack to 70 for whip training. But in the short-term I would simply do all possible defence quests and take it from there. What I'm going to do now is start training attack to 60 with slayer, then I'll see what happens about defence quests.

I voted "Something else" Range tank with high defence isn't that great, there isn't any need to go above 75. 75 def tanks are the most powerful build in the game.

75 is probably as high as I'd go, to be honest. Unless in the future I decided to go for 99, I'd stick as high as I needed it. And that would be 75 for DFS.

Of the other three, would you suggest range tank then, assuming it's 75 def?
