    Terrible shopping experiences

Recently even Oprah was discriminated while shopping for a purse because the store clerk didn't recognize her and when Oprah asked to see the bag the clerk told her it was just to expensive for her. Stuff like this happens to me all the time while shopping, it makes me so angry some times. I feel like every time I walk into these "expensive" stores for example like le chateau or guess I'm being targeted which usually means they'll follow me around constantly or ask me questions and never lay eyes off me. It makes me feel so dirty like I'm a thief or that I look like a thug. I dress casual when I'm shopping, jeans, plain t and loose shoes because it's not an event for me I'm not going to be wearing dress pants and a dress shirt to go into some mediocre store that sells causal clothes especially if it's a weekend.

The worst times were when I was leaving the La Chateau and the buzzer went off and they made my sister empty her bag at the till and found nothing but still gave us attitude. Another time was when I went to Armani Exchange and right off the bat they were rude to me, ignored me when I asked questions and when I finally went to try clothes on they "mistakenly" whipped open the door while I was changing to see if they were gonna catch me stealing! I love shopping, growing up we were really poor and I never got to buy anything but being older I do have the spare money to get things and it's a lot of fun and I enjoy it but everyone is so mean lately especially at stores like Aldo or spring they rarely speak to me there and tell me to wait or go on the phone like I have no money and can't afford these things. When I went to Edmonton Mall one summer I forgot my swim trunks to go to the swimming park so I went to foot locker to buy shorts while still having my gym bag with me and the lady grabbed my bag and went through it! I fought back that day though and called her a disgusting emo looking bitch and threw the shorts right at her and left.

Does stuff like this ever happen to you guys? Maybe it's just a race thing, I'm Native but my mother is Italian so I am light skinned but really that shouldn't matter anymore. I shop mostly at The Bay now cause the older women there are kind and leave me alone lol.

Honestly if you're a teenager or young(in your 20s) they will follow you around no matter what you look like.

I understand the following around thing I do, it's when they're are rude with no one in the store but me and they're standing there doing nothing but until I want to ask for a shoe size or a question they're immediately busy, that's what really bugs me. If I was a sales person I'd be the sweetest person you'd ever meet, you'd never see me snatching other peoples belongings or whipping dressing room doors open. Some times I just feel violated at these places. I mean when he did that all I had on was my boxers and they were extremely tight and showing because it was a laundry day and I don't feel comfortable showing myself basically nude to just anyone, I mean at least buy me dinner first.

This is why I just shop online. Cannot stand being followed & asked if I need assistance every 3 minutes.

I'd shop online but all the good stores are in the states and the duty fees are a pain in the behind.

There are a couple things wrong with this entire claim.

First, by law, no merchant has the authority to demand a search of your person with or without being recorded on a security camera for evidence. I find it extremely hard to believe such a credible outfit would break such a law to risk potential lawsuits and media criticism.

Secondly, like many other stores, various corporations have a contact requirement throughout their company. Example, Best Buy must greet a customer no longer than one minute prior to entering the business.

To me it seems like a complete misunderstanding or fabrication. Perhaps this could happen at Ma & Pa's antiques but certainly not a recordable franchises.

It doesn't really happen to me. If I'm going into nice stores, I dress appropriately and people are usually glad to help me..

You got me I'm lying. "eye roll" No but seriously, everything on this thread that I've said is 100% true and happened. Do I wish that it happened? No, because it makes me feel dirty and shitty every time stuff like this happens and I hate it! I said nothing about best buy, but I like shopping there they're nice and are welcoming and I have nothing negative to say about anyone who works at the one next to my house. I never complained before to anyone other than family it'd be embarrassing to bring this up for attention, it's embarrassing enough that it happens.

    @killdank
I dress nice, it's causal wear and usually everything I own is name brand but I do tend to stay away from labels that have huge company logos on their items like holister or ANF.

Very interesting topic, just curious and I don't mean this offensively at all. Do you believe there's a reason that the staff acted in this way?
++ next time walk into the store with a hidden recorder and record them being rude, they'd get fired fassst

No, I can't personally think there's a reason for any of this. I never go shopping with a bag and I wear causal but yet tight fitting clothing so I don't know really where they think I'm gonna put this "stolen' goods. Lol

Haha, fair enough I was wondering if you had a reason set in you head. I think a lot of the time It comes back to the idea of 'power'. They do it because they can, not because there's any particular reason. If a bodybuilding biker came into the store with 'I like to steal' printed on the back of his leathers, I honestly don't think they'd go anywhere near him. Let alone make him feel uncomfortable in any way. My best advice would be to ignore it, perhaps even feel sorry for them? After all they're the ones working in a shop with nothing better to do than harass the people who essentially pay their wages

Definitely. The only clothes I own with logo's are band T shirts... but I don't wear those to look classy, I wear them when I'm just lounging around or out with friends.

    Terrible shopping experiences

Yesterday I went to forever 21 for a big shopping haul and another terrible shopping experince but this time was another costumer. I was done shopping and proceeded to check out and there was a younger women and another lady who were being seen by another cashier so I THOUGHT so I went ahead and the other cashier told me to come over. This lady goes ballistic and says I cut her and I could have said excuse me? My sister also told me that this lady was ahead of me and to come back, the lady then said and yelled "WHATEVER IT'S FINE", I then said ok she's fine and put my stuff down on the counter. She wasn't done she kept talking smack about me and my sister told her it was just a misunderstanding and to relax this lady calls my sister a bitch and throws all her purchases across the counter and yells out she's never shopping here again and to go fuck yourselves. I yelled back at her while she was doing this to just relax and I said to her that she was just standing there if you were ready you should have walked to the cashier instead of scratching your ass for 5 minutes. She called me a fucker and left the store. The cashiers were two young girls both were shaking and scared, I just told them to calm down and people like that lady are hilarious.

Anyways I hate people like this!

Honestly, when a seller attempts to get all smart with me, I simply won't buy. They are hurting themselves out of all things for losing business. There are also tons of stores to go to in the world.

I needed to buy my dad something, so my mum and siblings gave me money to go out and buy something.

I walked into Louis Vuitton and some guy who worked there came up to me and asked me if I was in the wrong store, funnily enough I walked out with a pair of shoes which costed $1k.

The only time I really ever had a problem with shopping was when I lended a friend $100.00 to buy his girlfriend a present. After buying her the present she ended up breaking up with him to date my brother (they had already dated for 2 years previously), so the money I lent went into question.

Within the last 2 weeks the $100.00 was finally returned (10 month wait).

Also, I recently found out (within the last week) that when they had gotten back together he had actually gotten her pregnant, so congratulations on that.

Not sure if this was my most "terrible" shopping experience, but it certainly one with a story worth telling I suppose.
