Parallels

Hey guys, I just bought this MacBook pro 13"
Before you all go ham on me for buying it. I made sure to get the upgraded version.
2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
750GB 5400-rpm hard drive
Intel HD Graphics 4000

I know it's only a 512mb graphics card, but I am hoping to play some basic games on it (Infestation: Survivor Stories) etc. Just really basic games. However I do have an issue. The majority of the games are .exes (Windows)

So I have been looking at Parallels and how to set them up. But I am still really lost. Can someone tell me what I should be doing to play most of the games. Do I need to do a parallel? I have 8gb of ram, how many mb should I allocate. Will the processor be fine for playing these basic games even on a parallel?

Also, can someone explain to me what a dual boot is, I can't find much that is written in newbs.

I don't use shitbooks so I don't know how to dual boot with them. If it were a regular laptop, you'd partition your HD and put one OS on each partition.

The parallel thing you're talking about is a virtual machine program for shitbooks that you can use to run other, good operating systems.

Just answer me this, if you are going to be using another operating system anyway, why did you buy the macbook to begin with? Was it the hardware?

 

No, I enjoy the dock better and I cannot get accustomed to Windows 8 and did not want to buy an older laptop (I know there are some newer options with windows 7 but none that I liked the looks of etc.

If I use a virtual machine will it leech my ram or will it slow my processor?

 

You can use a VM but it will be slower. Dual booting with Windows 7 would be your best option in terms of performance. If you can install a second hard drive, I would buy one and install Windows on that and it would save you partitioning annoyances.

 

Use bootcamp to dual boot windows, it's really easy.

 

I do not have space inside the case for a second hard drive. Is partitioning hard/annoying. Could a newb do the repartitioning?

This looks promising. If I have a desktop with Windows 7 Home Edition, can I use that for the dual boot.

So it looks like a dualboot would be the best choice that way I can still harness the full CPU power and the full 8GB of RAM (minus the OS).

How would I get the copy of the operating sytem to use when repartitioning the harddrive? (I prefer to not have to buy one as I have several windows PCs that have windows 7 that I can just rip if possible)


ALSO: Can I go back after I do the dual boot, lets say if I do not want windows on here anymore.

And

When I dual boot I will still be able to use my full ram and cpu power or will it be split? Is it reversable? So after I do it am I stuck with it being partitioned?

 

You can't just transfer a copy of Windows from one HD to another. You'll need a fresh installation.

 

i was able to get the dual boot working!

But whenever I try to load windows I get a black screen with a white little line in the top left for at least 1 minute before it boots into the OS.

YES, it will rob system resources. You won't be able to avoid that. If you want to run windows programs, you would have been much better off with a windows PC. I'm not hating here, it's just the truth. Windows 8 sucks fat D**K but it's much better for me now that I've installed Classic Shell on it. Basically made it more like a windows 7 PC, and ive set it up to completely eliminate the goofy start screen that Microsoft thinks is so awesome, while bringing back all the features of windows 7 we miss so much(like the corner start menu)

Regardless, while you've got a nice computer, you're doomed on the gaming side of things unless you put windows on it.
