How to get stuff behind my 3d text?

Hey I am just starting GFX again after a break.

I was wondering how I can get stuff behind the 3d text that I can make.

for example you see it a lot in this portfolio:

How does he get the cloudy stuff behind the text without it looking stupid? and will it work with like, stars and specks of light?

anyway thank you in advance and here is my portfolio of you want to look. :)

Just simply have the text layer in front of the cloudy-stuff.

An easier way is to render as a transparent png, that way if your 3D text is is glass-ish at all (semi-transparent) when you put a stuff behind it you'll still see whatever you put through the text. For example, my signature. My text is a sort of cyan-blue glass and you can see the paint splatter brushes behind it through the actual 3D because of the transparency.

In C4D, if that's what your using, go into your render settings and change the format to PNG then make sure you hit the check box for Alpha Channel. Then render and take it into photoshop and it'll be transparent :)

then just put whatever you want behind it and you got it!

Show us an example on how it looks weird?
Ahh I think I know why it looks weird, you need to add an background like the guys work that you posted is using a dark background and then adding the stuff infront/behind the text and then he uses a layer style like overlay.
So if you want to do it for sythe then you have to add the sythe dark blue background behind your piece.
Sorry about the messy text hope you understand

How to get stuff behind my 3d text?

    1. Put your text on top of a layer with the sythe background color (#0f1c2b)

    2. Find desired effect and place it behind the text (make sure it's above the sythe background layer).

    3. You will want the effect to look transparent, so set the effect to a different blending style.

*Some blending styles like screen will mask most of the transparency but leave some left over light. Use a soft eraser tool to get rid of any of the excess effect you don't want to see.

Ok, so what I'm understanding from this thread is that you know how to do what your asking for but it looks 'weird.' This stuff doesn't happen over night bud. It takes time and practice for you to become experienced to create better graphics.
