Community Development Team - Rank?

Allow CDT members to stand out and allow other members to acknowledge their role and contribution to Sythe.

Just ensure that it in no way allows them to use this to gain an upper hand in the market etc, or, as Asapgang just stated, to allow members to self-proclaim trustworthiness etc

Then start infracting people and remove their rights if they start tagging their threads and blatantly use their ranks for trust.

 

Bump. I still think we should get a rank, as not everyone can enter the team.

 

Just saw this thread get brought back to life, and I actually can't see why it'd hurt, especially now some projects are kicking off in the CDT lounge.

 

I do support it only if they had to work for it. Just because they are part of the cdt, I dont believe they should automatically qualify for a rank. Getting in is one thing, but working for a rank should be another.

The process they go through just to get in, if its the upper staff that picks them is hard enough. But showing they are working for/on it, that makes it harder to get. Sort of how mods gets a fun rank, i believe they have to reach a quota to get it. I mean with the effort put in it seems unfair that they go unrewarded, assuming they put enough.

But if they are to get their own rank, Im not sure Id support it, at least not until I see a clear view of what they do and how it benefits sythe. I havent looked into this as Ive been rather inactive lately and I have some catching to do. But I would be all in for a fun rank that would be hard to get, along with a limited amount being given out.

 

I see no reason why a rank would be a problem, I have seen the "used for trust" issue brought into the argument a few times, but we have to remember that officially ranks are not used for trust, and we are dealing with, supposedly, pillars of the virtual community here, or at least that's the idea!

I do however have a suggestion.

I think CDT members should be held accountable to a certain degree of activity, determined by competition hosting, or behind the scenes work, in both cases, to be held accountable for their activity by Roary, or another involved staff member.

Also, as a side note, perhaps CDT members should be politely asked to make fellow members aware of holiday plans, or time away from the PC. This would allow for projects to continue under the lead of another CDT member, or stop situations such as "Steve can handle this", not knowing Steve will be AFK for some time, delaying a project.

I'm sure this might already happen, even informally on skype perhaps if not on a thread.

 

Of course it wouldn't be a freebie alongside the position, that would defeat the purpose of it being a reward of sorts. People who are actively contributing and producing events and/or other things would receive it as a thank you, because let's face it - they do work hard and receive a load of flack for it.

 

Then Im all in for this. I mean in the past, not sure if it is still allowed or still done, fun ranks were given out for no other reason than an admin liking you. Im pretty sure it was done by finn. However the way it was given out, it was way easier than getting them by being in the cdt if this suggestion was approved.

Another is the people that compares the situation the user educators experienced in the past. Unlike in that situation, you dont get a rank immediately, this only a fun rank. Fun being the key word.

 

If someone is active for a period of let's say 3 months in the CDT, actively running events, projects and for instance SM, they are deserving of a rank. If they just sit there and do nothing, they aren't. I can gladly say that 50%+ of CDT are active in projects and making competitions.

 

Are you suggesting a 'probationary' period of three months for CDT members, at the end of which the rank is awarded?

 

I agree 100% with I_DONT_BOT someone shouldn't just be handed the rank as soon as they become part of the CDT. Perhaps we should have Roary or N4N0 keep an eye over the members and after a period of say 2-6 months reward those members they think are actually putting their best foot forward and contributing to the CDT and not just using it for it's title. Or, we could even have a community based vote/ thread where members of the community say who they think is really stepping up and helping out.

For the most part, I would just be happy with just a minirank, maybe a star shape different to the MOTM so people can recognize us, I don't see the harm if we give them to the members that everyone feels deserves them, I mean if you look at JohnG he has 2 rows of miniranks and no one is going to trust him more or less because of those.

 

There are community mods ranks for that.
I think better option would be adding minirank for them or add to user title '<THEIR OWN EVENTUAL TITLE>+Community Development team'
I dont mind, if they had their own rank that would be well deserved through.

I like Chloe's idea as well. I wouldn't mind seeing it as a mini rank personally. I do like the idea of a probationary period so no one could use the rank as a sign of trust right away.

 

People don't pay attention to miniranks. Yes, it would award the user - but they're not going to stand out as different from ordinary members.

 

I think CDT deserve it as a rank, not a mini-rank.

 

With chloe's method, theres only one problem, The community voting. They can't see what goes on behind the scenes in the lounge, while only a few users may post the idea, others may produce it and manage it. It should be voted on by the Upper Staff team imo.

 

I don't really like Chloe's idea. I think everyone should get a rank and actually work, not only some of the team work and get the rank, while others remain inactive. Also, if only some have the rank what is the purpose of having one? People still wouldn't recognize us if they ever need our help. That's just my personal opinion though.

 

Let's not get in to specifics. There'd be some activity/event based system which will be decided upon and be realistic. Let's just get this yay'd or nay'd first
