So I joined the Organ Donor Register not too long ago;

Yep iv been an organ donor since i first got my drivers license when i was 16. When i die i don't care if im stuffed into a dumpster. So this was a no brainer. Iv known people that have had to sit on the transplant list for a long time. So i wont be needing my organs when im dead, others will.

 

its something I should probably get around to doing. Im happy to donate all of my organs.

 

I will look into this, been meaning to for quite a while.

My lungs would be useless as I have been a heavy smoker since i was 15.
Eyes probably useless too as I have a -2.75 prescription.

i would never donate my organs to someone. i do however have health issues so transfering to another person is not ok.

I'm a donor, after I'm dead I don't need em anymore, I won't be a functional zombie but oh well.

Meh I was swindled into it when I was young (16 I guess). Now when I think about it, it kind of freaks me out lol. It is for a good cause but it is weird knowing someone would be taking my eyes?

 

Same here, I actually unticked my name a year later and all that I got was a note telling me that I have to go through this complicated mail in process to change my mind. I probably won't do anything about it.

No. My family doesn't want my body messed with after I'm dead (taken apart etc). I do plan on having myself frozen, though.

 

I personally want to thank you Roary for joining the countless others that save lives after death. Its because of selfless people like you that I am still alive. I was diagnosed with Acute Live Failure at 17 and was given less than a week to live at most due to the amount of decay. Luckily my Dad was a match for me or I would have been one of the several million people on the waiting list.

Because of of my transplant, I cannot donate due to the anti rejection medications that I am on. If I could, I would and not think twice about it. I have never been able to figure out why more do not donate their organs after death. Their organs go to waste that could have saved up to eight people. But to each their own I guess!!

I'd rather have it being up to my family if they were comfortable with donating my organs, I'd hate dying at such a young age and knowing my mom would have to deal with someone else walking around with my eyes. Although if I was much older I'd still leave the option up to my kids.

 

Back when I got my driver's license, they asked me if I'd like to donate my organs.

I told them, "Only after I'm dead."

It was the first time in history a DMV worker smiled or laughed.

 

i guess im not since i dont see it on my license. I guess its weird just knowing that parts of me will be in another person. Cant use my lungs tho

 

Wow! That is... that's crazy... I would hate to be in that situation. Unfortunately, I'm one of the people who'd need some convincing... I don't want my liver going to a drunk, or lungs going to a smoker, etc. There are more reasons, but I'm lazy right now =p.

Also, I don't want people eyeballin' me for my awesome organs... they'd be like "Yeah, he'd be perfect donor for your phalloplasty, Ms. Johnson."

Ahahahaha =]. That's funny lmao... ugh I had an awful DMV worker who just wanted me out of there (I was her last one before she clocked out). I had a feeling I should have requested someone else. What do you know, I go a letter saying I had to come back and redo everything. Surprise! Luckily I was pushed to the start of the queue so it wasn't so bad.

 

They don't hand em out like nothing, they wouldn't give a liver to an alcoholic knowing it'd just be wasted. The person(s) receiving them are well evaluated. Though, the entitlement is a controversial issue, some alcoholics aren't alcoholics by choice



Most people I spoke to said they'd sign up but not have their eyes or hearts removed, some just because it grossed them out and others because of religious belief of next lives and so on. Eyes seem to be the one most people wouldn't let go, but giving someone the gift of sight is worth it IMO.

Addiction is a hard thing for some people to comprehend unfortunately. One person would look at an alcoholic as somebody who chooses to drink, and therefore forfeits the right to be allowed a transplant, another would see the problems that person is going through, and understand that it's not as simple as stopping.

As I read somewhere recently, the understanding of an alcohol addiction is lagging far behind that of other addictions/disorders, and people do not understand that telling an alcoholic to stop drinking is like telling a depressed individual to cheer up. Obviously this causes large controversies (see for example George Best).

I personally would certainly donate my organs, more than likely due to being an atheist, therefore believing that only actions from one individual will help another (there certainly doesn't appear to be a divine being giving out organs, anyway).

 

yeah shit can i do this in canada? i'd like to sign up just so when they go to take my organs, the guy doing it will be like, "wow, unbelievably. this man has some of the most beautiful organs i've ever seen!" and I'll be smugly looking down on the guy thinking, "yeah"

 

why wouldn't you. what's the logic not to. who cares, just give your organs, saves lives quite literally
