    Graphics card problem (I think)

Recently i have downloaded steam and i bought a couple of games today. Every time i load up a game and start playing, it is EXTREMELY laggy. Everytime i open the game i get this message http://gyazo.com/e1cee30767aa1be28762bf2204f20184. Does anyone know what i need to do/buy to fix this problem? I've tried setting the video quality on the game to low but it doesn't help. If someone can help me with my problem your advice would be greatly appreciated.

edit: btw i use a laptop, nothing fancy just a regular dell laptop with no special gaming features or anything

right click on computer, go to properties, device manager then click the drop down arrow next to display adapters and it will tell you what your graphics card is. let me know what it is and ill tell you. what it sounds like is your running a old low end graphics card

When you play your games, is your laptop plugged in or is it running on batteries? Usually a laptop will come with two sets of graphic cards. One is for high intensity graphics like games; the other is for browsing and stuff. Sometimes laptops will default to the latter when not plugged-in in order to save energy. Try plugging it in and tell us what happens.

It just seems like your laptop is too weak to run the games. I'd suggest upgrading or buying a desktop to play.

Any idea how old the thing is?

not unless you know what you are doing and even then its still ehh. laptops are made differently then desktops. youd have to pay someone the costs of a new computer to change out the graphics card

Basically, I might be wrong but I think you don't even have a graphics card. Its just the small built in graphics card that comes on your motherboard, not really meant for gaming...

I suggest just going for a new laptop at this point if you're into gaming. If you need help picking something out feel free to shoot me a PM.

Yeah bud, your laptop simply isn't made to run games like though. By the sounds of it it's probably an old-ish laptop, so even if you popped it open and were to try and replace the graphics card the motherboard may not be compatible with em and whatnot...

Honestly just try and sell it and get any buck you can from it, and just upgrade to a better computer.

    wrong and wrong.

now on his laptop, unfortunately no upgrades are possible. but if it had an MXM interface, it's very simple to replace a GPU yourself in a laptop. and while its much more pricy than a desktop card...it's still not that bad price-wise nowadays considering what you're dealing with.

but as for the OP...yah you need to upgrade.

Get a desktop if you leave it plugged in all the time
They are generally more powerful and cheaper
Laptops are a bit expensive with upgrading compared to desktops,I can basically do that myself.
Upgrading graphic cards is difficult for laptops
