Random Question. Scared of being hacked

Hey guys, I just have a quick question. So I was just stringing some flax earlier today and saw this guy spamming "Go to youtube and search this video to find a guide on earning 4m/h". Since I was bored, I decided to go check it out. After watching the video, I knew for a fact that this was going to be some BS video and he said "simply click on the link in description box to learn more" . So I looked at the link, and it looked as if it was leading to the runescape site because the web address started with "www.secure-runescape.com" . So I clicked it and notice that it lead me to another website! So I exited right away, and went to my settings to see if my firewall was on. I noticed that it wasnt, so i turned it on. Is it possible to get hacked from simply going to a website? What is the solution to this? Im scared :3

 

Did you run Java when you went on it?

I mean, did it ask to run Java or did a Java screen load on said website?

 

I'm not sure. When I clicked the link, it gave me some sort of warning that gave me an option to "continue" or "go back"
I wasn't able to read it because i got scared, so i exited the screen right away.

 

You should be fine, if you're worried just change all your passwords and run a virus scan

Sophos is good for mac. I keep it installed in case i want a scan (rare)

Doesn't sound like you did enough to get damaged though; you only have to worry if you run java on the website you visit. This is different to having java running on a different website at the same time.

 

If you're on Mac OSX, the chance of you getting a virus is slim. You rarely hear about viruses on OSX. I'd say you're pretty safe, if it was Windows, then it might be different.

Just get anti-virus as stated, because even with JAG you aren't fully secure, because they potentially could have installed a keylogger and got your email info.

 

get avast and malwarebytes anti-malware run a scan on both of them and you should be good
