Why is starting boots in the Jungle so bad?

So, yeah. Why is starting boots in the Jungle so bad?
I main Jungle (Voli & Udyr) & I prefer starting boots with them, along with utility runes I start on 400 movement speed, but every game I get flamed & called a troller. Yet nearly every game I'm the reason top gets first blood.

whats your opinions on starting utility in the Jungle?

Down to personal preference in the way you jungle (aggressive/passive/countering etc). I personally start macehete on most, aside dorans ring on fiddle, boots on nunu and dorans blade on lee.

What sellerman said. Really depends on your preference and the champion you're playing.

You are not usually supposed to gank before your second buy. Most people get double buff and then go back and buy boots and are ready for ganks. Starting something more offensive in the jungle like armor or machete really helps them achieve this where boots don't provide anything that help in the jungle ( other then a minor speed boost). This is especially important since jungle is obviously twice as difficult at lower levels and having that extra armor or damage makes a world of difference. If on the other hand you are playing a very strong jungler such as Warwick or Shyvana it is okay to start boots since you already have what you need to effectively clear. If I were to start boots on the champs you named I would clear my top buff and then go for a level 2 gank top. Any other strategy is (IMO) obsolete.

No one starts boots ever since they buffed base movement speeds of all champions.

I generally start with the buff which is closest to bot lane.
so, generally Smiteless Red or Blue > Red or Blue > Top early gank.
Then if first blood is gotten, you're in a strong position to then purchase Spirit stone, starting 400 movement speed, then with Voli or Udyr you get an ability to increase movement speed & stun them (Throw) you get like 480 movement speed, chasing someone with 325.. In my opinon, its a strong start to a game.

I can't really comment on itemization, but here is somthing i've picked up. I don't really play jungle that much, but, My jungle route is Blue> Gank top or mid to take a flash and put some early pressure onto the lane, but a lot of the people who main jungle like to do Blue>Wolves>wraiths>red>buy>wraiths>wolves>golems ect ect, and don't even have "Ganking" in there jungle route, however, they substitute it in when they see the opportunity, i.e. a lane thats struggling or over extending, and in my mind, that is what makes a "good" jungler.

If you always "plan" to go gank top right after blue, it wont always 100% work. You might want to wait until level 2 or 3 when you have some CC and your lanes have more damage/ a CC to contribute instead of just autos and their first ability. (Think Jax or Elise). Secondly, when you gank early without securing all your buffs or invading, it leaves your buffs open for the enemy jungler to take for free. So for this reason; a lot of people tend to rush machete into Spirit of the elder lizard because they plan on taking all their jungle camps before they pick up utility items like boots, ect, for ganking.

I level 2 gank all the time when I jungle, even with a Machete, and even on less "aggressive" junglers like Nautilus. If you are smart you can gank with a huge minion advantage, and the level 2 2v1 plus 3 minions means you get a pretty good chance at first blood.

The exception to getting first blood is ganking champions with a strong escape that is likely going to be obtained at level 2 (Riven, Fizz, etc), but even then a well-timed gank can set ahead your team significantly. Many inexperienced players don't buy wards, so pay attention to the tab menu to see who has a "full build" (e.g., Boots + 3 pots; Cloth + 5 pots; etc) and who is 75 gold behind in their build because they bought a ward. The opponent will either have to back and lose a lot of early exp (meaning they will be out-traded due to a level disadvantage) or they will have to play really passively, allowing your ally to farm easily.

Now, to answer your question, with the drop in boots prices it's not terribly bad to buy boots early. The champions that would really benefit from boots are the really aggressive junglers without a gap closer. Two top junglers in this list are, in fact, Udyr and Volibear, who both rely on movespeed to catch up to an enemy. Depending on the possibility of a gank (which is determined on the teamcomps of both sides and the starting builds of both sides), boots can surely help get first blood before you have to back one time. Other aggressive junglers who do have a gap closer (Lee, Xin, J4, etc.) will benefit more from a machete because (A) it helps get them level 2 faster and do more damage to sustain their first clear after the first gank, and (B) it gives them the option to purchase the maximum number of potions, again sustaining them through the first clear after the gank. In fact, if I am jungling with one of these champs, many games I wait until my third back to even buy level 1 boots. Since they generally rely on one strong burst to get a kill, building high early damage helps secure kills better than building a bit of extra movespeed to stick to the enemy better. Just note: not buying boots means you are more susceptible to being counter-jungled and even ganked while in your own jungle.
