Official Sythe Wiki

At present there's bits of information in stickies under different forums but frequently you'll see somebody getting infracted for something they either didn't read or see. I am aware that this is that users fault and nobody else's but I think it would be a nice community friendly feature to have a wiki where all of the information can be collated into one single place.

Wiki entries that contained important stuff such as official Sythe rules or anything of the sort could be edited by staff only but it would be cool if normal members were allowed to create pages for the wiki (that need approval before submission). Not only would this get the community more involved if done properly it could get more traffic coming to the website to read articles on guides, and different topics.

Although it will add more moderation jobs for the staff team you could possibly delegate responsibility to the CDT to help with it so the task would be shared between CDT & Staff to spread out the workload.

As I say, it's just a thought but let me know what you think?

 

I think it'd effectively bring many more members to our forum at the very least, and I'm all up for saving our site from dying. Support.

 

I'm not sure if this would work.. but if someone could work it out it would give the CDT more to do since there's nothing going on right now.

 

There is no real need. If people won't/don't read stickies, they aren't going to read a pages of verbal diarrhoea.

Someone was developing one before.. can't remember who was doing it.. I might be able to dig it up later. It started well but kinda died out.

 

A quick read over the rules in a concentrated thread seems much better. Sorry, no support.

 

No support. Tried it over at Smokin Mils and it completely flopped. I know that SM is a much smaller place, but there isn't enough information here to warrant a wiki, and it's usefulness is questionable.

 

I'd have to agree with this. People don't read them for a reason, I don't think more words on a page would convince them otherwise.

Ignorance is all over Sythe. It's their fault if they don't use common sense and read the stickies which are clearly there for a reason.

I'd agree with that however a Wiki would be there for other things, you wouldn't just create one for just the rules. You could put articles and guides in for all of the games that sythe has a market or have a scam section that has details about who and what to avoid.

 

I'd support it just so we can crowd source stuff easily.

 

I feel like this is a lot of needless work. All the information is here on Sythe, after all. Is it that hard to read the stickies in each section to figure things out? Making a wiki feels like catering to lazy people or someone looking for something to do.

Superfluous is the best word I can think of to describe it.

 

If there are willing volunteers to do it instead of just passing it off to the CDT then yes. Since there seems to be a lack of these then no. There simply isn't enough content deserving of a wiki itself and if anything the FAQ Roary mentioned could simply be updated if anything needs to be added (I thought it was pretty extensive myself).

OP: Why don't you make a thread asking for volunteers and head it up yourself? I'd help out where I could for sure. Once you have 10 people who are actively dedicated to the project we could get started.

 

Because I have no interest in participating. Someone that is willing to lead the project should do anything like that.

Pretty sure Govind made something like this at one point and well I don't hear about it today so I'm pretty sure it never took off / ended up working.

 

Having a wiki page was attempted before I believe but it never happened. I think we'd just be better off just referring people to the FAQ and support sections.
